Alois Lageder

The name "Mimuèt" (to my taste) comes from Ladin. Convinced that South Tyrol offers the best conditions for the Pinot Noir grape variety, Alois Lageder paid particular attention to it at a very early stage. His goal is to produce wines with precision, lightness and filigree structure. Garnet red with ruby reflexes. Pinot Noir Mimuèt smells of ripe black cherries, flowers and spices. On the palate, elegant, almost light on its feet, with a multi-layered, soft finish. SUPERIORE.DE

Surmont is the successor to Rain Riesling. As in the past, some of the grapes come from the South Tyrolean lowlands, while the other part now comes from the Isarco Valley from high and cool locations on soils of volcanic origin, which give the wine a fresher, almost alpine style. Bright, straw-yellow colour with a slight greenish tinge. Clean, distinct, fragrant varietal aroma with fine fruity notes (peach, pear). Balanced, medium-bodied. Fresh, juicy finish. The racy acidity is harmoniously integrated into the fruit structure. A wonderful Riesling italico in small quantities. SUPERIORE.DE

Clemens Lageder told us: "We were in for a surprise when processing the grapes from this Porer component. When the grapes were tipped, a significant proportion of botrytis berries was found in many of the grapes. The wine was nevertheless bottled. As the wine matured, we got to know and appreciate it more and more. This is how our understanding developed: From initial rejection and uncertainty to appreciation of the influence of noble rot on Pinot Gris. The Vernatsch variety is part of South Tyrol's culture and an important component of the country's red wine varieties. The grape variety is often hastily dismissed as too simple and often gets little time in the cellar. This Vernatsch has had time to develop. NATSCH4 is a vintage blend of the four vintages 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. The grapes of the wines come from the oldest parcel of the famous Vernatsch site RÖMIGBERG. The four wines are vinified on the skins and whole clusters for different lengths of time. SUPERIORE.DE

"The NV Natsch4 (a blend of four vintages of Schiava) bursts from the glass with an intense mix of crushed raspberries and black cherries complemented by autumnal spices and shaved cedar. This is zesty in nature, with tart wild berry fruits offset by stimulating acidity and sour citrus. It tapers off a bit shorter than anticipated yet leaves the mouth watering for more, as a bitter yet subtle twang of nectarine punctuates the finale. Casòn Rosso is a Rosso made from the rare French Tannat grape, a small edition that rounds off the range of Lageder wines, which, although experimental, can rightly be described as unique at a very high level. Intense, fruity bouquet of plums and blackberries, with hints of leather, smoke and green tea. Medium-bodied on the palate, with an overwhelming juiciness and freshness, sublime tannins and delicately bitter notes on the finish. At the southern foot of the Margreider Schuttkegel is a vineyard with the dialect name "Punggl", which has been known and coveted for viticulture since time immemorial. In the mid-1950s, the former owners of the Hirschprunn estate planted a vineyard there with Merlot, as it had already produced very good results in previous decades. In 1995, the grapes from this vineyard were of such first-class quality that they inspired Luis von Dellemann, the Oenologistresponsible at the time, to vinify these grapes as a single variety - since then, and only in the best years, this strictly selected grape material has formed the basis for the MCM.

Löwengang emphasises the unique DNA of the grapes from which this wine is made. Parts of the vineyard are around 145 years old and the vines are among the oldest vineyards in South Tyrol. Count Melchiori, the former owner, planted the plots in Margreid with Cabernet around 1875. At least that's what he thought - because a large proportion of the vines planted at that time were actually Carménère vines. Through intensive study of the vineyard and extensive genetic analyses, the Alois Lageder winery discovered that the vineyard was in fact a mixed set of Carménère, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. In order to emphasise the special origin of the grapes, the wine will be offered as the "Löwengang Historischer gemischter Satz" from the 2018 vintage onwards.
