Vinschgauer Gewürztraminer Alto Adige DOC 2021
Dry warmth during the day and refreshing coolness at night - ideal conditions for a Gewürztraminer that is leaner and fresher at Weingut Falkenstein than is otherwise known from South Tyrol. Bright yellow. On the nose, ripe but never exuberant aromas of dried fruits, honey, a little scent of roses. Medium-bodied on the palate and extremely drinkable due to its relatively low residual sweetness. The long fermentation on the natural yeasts ensures a balanced and lean appearance here. SUPERIORE.DE

These refined wines are then sold in small quantities as "Private Reserve" to selected retailers and the gastronomy industry, thus demonstrating the impressive maturing potential of the wines matured on fine yeast for 10 months.
Strong straw yellow. Intense bouquet of gooseberries with a restrained peppery note. Full and juicy on the palate with grapefruit, citrus and an interesting stimulating spice. With an almost youthful freshness and juiciness, this multi-layered Riserva also glides into a wonderfully long, mineral finish. SUPERIORE.DE

Bright straw green. Wild herbs, orange peel, green fruits and spices on the nose. Round and broad on the attack, then more straightforward and restrained in the middle, with enough saline edge and harmonious acidity to buffer the subtle fruit sweetness. “Phileo” Vinschgauer Weißburgunder Alto Adige DOC 2019
The name "phileo" is based on the first name Filomena of the mother of the current owner Franz Pratzner. She had a decisive influence on Weinhof Falkenstein, which is why a selection from the best Pinot Blanc vineyards was created for the first time in 2016, which will bear her name from now on. This spontaneously fermented Pinot Bianco sets standards - in its creaminess, present acidity and minerality and with its great ageing potential. With its delicate apple flavours and subtle vanilla and citrus notes, it is a benchmark for the region's most famous white grape variety! SUPERIORE.DE
"A complex and minerally wine in a Burgundian style. Chalk, gunpowder, green apples, and a touch of wet wool. Medium-bodied with crisp acidity, weight, toasty flavors of grapefruit and a savory, salty finish." James Suckling

“Anadûron” Vinschgauer Riesling Alto Adige DOC 2019
Anadûron is the Celtic name for Naturns, which means "settlement by the swamp". The selection is a tribute to the Pratzner family's home village of Naturns. 12 months of fermentation and ageing in tonneau, 5 months in stainless steel and a further 31 months of ageing in the bottle.
Pretty and slightly exotic aroma of crushed stones, green plants and nectarines. Silky and youthfully dense on the palate with a net of minerality that skilfully envelops the tart fruit. The bright acidity provides a beautiful balance, Anadûron finishes long and full of spicy tension. Great ageing potential, Falkenstein's new masterpiece is at the beginning of a long journey on which it will continue to develop. SUPERIORE.DE
"Powerful, bright yellow-green colour. Impressive nose with lots of rich, ripe peach fruit, plus plenty of apricot, underpinned by notes of flint, some sage. Juicy and with great tension on the palate, fully ripe vineyard peach, good tension, long finish." Falstaff

Winery with view. One looks far down into the valley at Naturns in Vinschgau. Tiny the houses, the Adige meanders like a narrow blue-green band under the towering, mostly snow-covered mountains. As beautiful as it is at the Vinschgauer Sonnenberg, the work in the steep, terraced vineyards is as laborious. Handcrafted in countless hours.
This vineyard used to be a fruit farm. After visits to the Wachau, which impressed Franz Pratzner very much, he and his wife Bernadette switched completely to viticulture in 1989. The Wachauer influence is still noticeable today in the assortment, because his favourite is the Riesling. Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon blanc, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Noir complete the range.
If one sees the massive rocks of the Ötztal Alps in the background, one cannot believe that there are on average 315 sunny days here. The dry primary rock soil and the sunny southern location therefore offer the best conditions for the closely planted vines in steep terraces between 550 and 900 m above sea level. 10-12,000 vines per hectare in Guyot education, with 4-5 different clones of each grape variety planted to suit the soil.
Approximately 90,000 bottles of wine per year come from about 12 hectares of vineyards. In addition to the production of white wines with a focus on Riesling, a small quantity of Pinot Noir is also cultivated. Another speciality of the house are pure grappas and noble brandies.
Franz and Bernadette Pratzner are fully committed to manual work, since 2003 all wines are vinified in the new cellar. The architecture of the cellar fulfils the wish of the old family to unite with the new, and so a rock cellar was created next to the modern part, where today the white wines mature in large 10-15 hl wooden barrels. Also here a little influence from the Wachau, the barrels of acacia wood. Meanwhile the two daughters Magdalena and Michaela support their parents. And just as Franz brought ideas from "good old Austria", Magdalena followed with ideas from his internship in Australia. There she was fascinated by the whole grape fermentation of the Pinot Noir and successfully realized it with her Vinschgauer Blauburgunder.
The wines of the Pratzner family are now among the finest in South Tyrol, numerous awards at home and abroad decorate the walls, from the coveted tre bicchieri of Gambero Rosso to the 5 grapes of Bibenda to high scores in Wein-Plus and Falstaff. SUPERIORE.DE
