Vermentino Toscana IGT 2023 (BIO)
The vineyards are located 15 metres above sea level, facing west, on river sediment soils with a sandy texture. The coastal sun shines through in the bright straw-yellow nuances of this wine. The fresh bouquet has notes of lemon, freshly cut green apples and hints of mint and sage; these Mediterranean impressions are also found on the palate. A flavoursome, persistent and very versatile Vermentino from western Tuscany. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2023 Vermentino is a gorgeous, super-expressive white. Light tropical overtones add an exotic flair to this layered, beautifully rendered Vermentino. Hints of passion fruit, pear, white flowers and mint linger nicely." Vinous

“Mediterra” Rosso Toscana IGT 2021
Mediterra with its inviting aromas of paprika, redcurrant, elderberry, sage and black pepper is round and harmonious on the palate with beautiful fruit and spice. With its well-proportioned tannins and well-balanced acidity, Mediterra is a perfect accompaniment to food. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, dark ruby red colour. Aromas of dark plum, blueberries and black pepper on the nose. Soft and mouth-filling on the palate, with a noticeable woody note, slightly drying tannins, juicy fruit flavours and a hint of bitter almond." Falstaff
"This red is signaled by intense aromas of wild blackberry, black pepper, black olive and eucalyptus. Showing earth and underbrush accents that augment the fruity flavors, this firms up on the finish." Wine Spectator
"The 2021 Mediterra is bright, effusive and wonderfully inviting. Crushed flowers, herbs, tobacco, spice and leather meld into a core of juicy dark blue/purplish fruit. The Mediterra offers all of the immediacy of Bolgheri but with tons of freshness more than opulence. It is a hugely appealing style, especially at this level, where wines are typically intended to be drunk essentially on release." Vinous
"Dark chocolate, toasted walnuts, mocha and ripe dark berries on the nose. Medium- to full-bodied and structured with firm but very fine tannins. Shows notes of toasted cedar and bitter spices yet very delicate with integration and balance. Smooth and polished finish." James Suckling

“Miché" Rosato Metodo Ancestrale Frizzante s.a. secco
A rosé made from Sangiovese according to the classic Pet-Nat method, harvested in the last half of August and whose carbonic acid is created unplanned by the almost complete fermentation of the sugar in the bottle. A sparkling wine with a yeast deposit that has played its way into the hearts of "natural wine" fans in a fresh and unconventional way. Ideal for aperitifs and light summer dishes. “Scalabrone” Rosato Bolgheri DOC 2023
Scalabrone presents itself generously every year, but also incredibly fresh. It shows ripe strawberries with a hint of sweet cream, tropical kiwi and lime. It washes over the palate with lightness, carrying ripe red fruit, a hint of melon and a savoury minerality. The finish is long and flanked by lively acidity and salty minerals. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah is perfectly balanced and makes this flavoursome rosato one of the most vibrant in the appellation every year. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark sparkling pink. Opens invitingly to raspberries and juicy sour cherries, underpinned by the scent of violets. Very fresh on the palate, dense fruit core, compact and juicy through to the medium-long finish." Falstaff
"Before the advent of the famed reds of the area, the first officially established DOCs in Bolgheri were based on white and rosé wines, and Antinori's 'Scalabrone' was one of the first wines to be bottled under the DOC Bolgheri Rosato. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a tiny portion of Syrah produce a delightful rosé with a Mediterranean touch. Bright pink at the core with a pale reflection, lovely bouquet of cherries and wild berries with a rose petal hint, then a fruity palate with lively acidity and a pleasant finish." Decanter
"The 2023 Rosato Scalabrone from Bolgheri shines almost neon pink in the glass. The seriousness of the aromas and flavours belies the cheerful colour - it is multi-layered and complex. Blood orange, paprika, bergamot, stemmed herbs, forest floor and a hint of earthiness lend it many nuances. The tangy, electric acidity immediately flows over the palate and gives it brightness and vigour. The finish is long and clean, culminating in a hint of sweet red cherry and a welcome touch of ripeness. This wine is suitable both as an aperitif and for dinner." Vinous

“Le Difese” Toscana IGT 2021
Le Difese is the freshest and most accessible of the three wines from San Guido. For us, it is one of Tuscany's finest price-quality wonders. Magnificent, sweetly perfumed fruit aromas in the opulent bouquet, equally generous and broad in the long-lasting flavour of dark cherries, wild strawberries and tangy rosehips. Le Difese shows the estate's great class in a more playful way. SUPERIORE.DE
"This red delivers cherry, berry and rose flavors shaded by earth and a touch of minerality. Tips to the tannic side on the finish, with fine length." Wine Spectator
"Le Difese 2021 is predominantly Sangiovese (55%), departing from the traditional 70/30 split in favour of Cabernet Sauvignon. The third generation of Tenuta San Guido, Priscilla Incisa della Rocchetta, explained that this decision was made to enhance the "local Tuscan" character of the wine and improve its drinkability at an early stage as a "first step into the world of Tenuta San Guido". While the Cabernet is grown on the estate, the Sangiovese is, as always, sourced from long-standing partners in Chianti Rufina. Bright, incredibly vibrant red, black and blue fruits are accompanied by subtle, fine-grained tannins with notes of wood and chocolate. It is simultaneously juicy, tangy and crisp, with good ripeness and great acidity." Decanter
"The 2021 Le Difese smells of crushed red berries, rose petals, lavender, spices and sweet pipe tobacco. The 2021 is medium-bodied, but beautifully complex and impeccably balanced. Even at this early stage, it is a real pleasure. In many vintages, Le Difese is a fruity, forward wine, but the 2021 has a classic flavour that is very appealing. It is one of my favourite vintages of recent years. As has been the case for some time, Le Difese is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon from the estate and Sangiovese purchased from various estates in Chianti Classico, with the energy of the Sangiovese coming through very strongly in this vintage." "Dark, sparkling ruby red colour. Opens up on the nose to ripe sour cherry and blueberries, followed by notes of sage and wood spice. Flattering on the palate, with pithy tannins and concentrated fruit, pleasant right through to the lingering final." Falstaff

“Le Volte dell’Ornellaia” Rosso Toscana IGT 2022
Rich bouquet of sweet red berries, balsamic notes, fine flavours of tobacco and chocolate. Very harmonious on the palate of dark cherries, flatteringly full flavour, perfectly balanced tannins, fresh acidity and good length. SUPERIORE.DE
"Impenetrable ruby red with violet reflections. Pickled plum and amarena on the nose, followed by mocha, clove and tobacco. Balanced on the palate with velvety tannins and lively flavour, long-lasting." Falstaff
"The 2022 Le Volte dell’Ornellaia is a tasty Sangiovese-based blend. Crushed flowers, plum, cinnamon, leather and spice are front and center. Plump and inviting, with lovely forward fruit, Le Volte is a terrific choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years." Vinous
"A fresh, expressive red that also shows tension and adds energy to its blackcurrant, cherry, liquorice and cedar flavours. Graphite and savoury accents add detail on the long, tightly wound finish." Wine Spectator
"Very aromatic, with flavours of raspberries, orange peel and flowers. Beautiful transparency. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and a crisp finish. Drinkable now, but better from 2026." James Suckling

“Le Difese” Toscana IGT 2022
Le Difese is the freshest and most accessible of the three wines from Tenuta San Guido. For us, it is one of the most beautiful price-quality wonders of Tuscany. Magnificent, sweetly perfumed fruit aromas in the opulent bouquet, equally generous and broad in the long-lasting flavour of dark cherries, wild strawberries and tangy rosehips. Le Difese shows the great class of the winery in a more playful way. SUPERIORE.DE
"Light, transparent garnet colour. Juicy, accessible nose. Quite a charmer with a little Sangiovese bite on the finish for the short term. Decent, medium finish." Jancis Robinson
"Bright and appealing flavours of raspberry and cranberry with some cedar follow through to a medium body with fine tannins and a crisp finish. Fresh and crisp." James Suckling
"Bright red and violet scents with a creamy background and herbal notes lead to a soft and structured palate full of fresh, tangy cherries and dark hedgerow berries. Ripe, precise and flavoursome with a long, airy, balsamic finish, Le Difese should be enjoyed over the next ten years." Decanter
"The 2022 Le Difese is full-bodied, juicy and expressive, making it a good choice to drink now and over the next few years. Crushed flowers, juicy red cherry fruit, mint, spice and blood oranges race across the palate. This exuberant yet medium-bodied Tuscan coastal red wine is a true delight. The 2022 is a particularly beautiful edition. It benefits from a warm year, an earlier bottling and an earlier selection." Vinous

“Bell’Aja” Bianco Bolgheri DOC 2023
The characteristic features of this new Bolgheri Bianco are reminiscent of notes of white fruit, jasmine flowers and thyme. On the palate, it is fresh and harmonious and expresses an immediate pleasantness that is characteristic of this region. The high proportion of Vermentino gives this pretty white wine good tension and a slight salinity. SUPERIORE.DE
"Intense, bright light gold colour. Expressive, inviting bouquet with notes of tangerine, orange zest and yellow flowers before spicy notes on the finish. Polished on the palate, spreading across the palate to the fruity finish." Falstaff
"A zesty and spicy white that has aromas of grapefruit, lemon rind, cardamom and pineapple on the nose. It’s fresh and medium-bodied with a persistent, lively finish." James Suckling

Grandiose wines of world renown.
Once upon a time there was a sleepy village in the Maremma, high above the sea only ten kilometres away as the crow flies. There the family of the wife of the young Marchese Mario Incisa della Rochetta owned a small piece of stony land. Already as a student of agriculture in Pisa, the Marchese dreamed of producing a noble wine like the famous Bordeaux estates. After all, his grandfather had already written books about the most important grape varieties.
Shortly after the Second World War he tried Cabernet Sauvignon on the rocky hill below Castiglioncello Castle. Outside of all then recognized wine-growing areas. 1948 was the year, the first wine was ready. Nothing was sold. Also the next years up to the 1960s the wine was drunk only itself. Always put some boxes away - in order to taste later how it would develop. And the Marchese found that he developed splendidly. So in 1965 two more vineyards were planted with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
Son Nicolò and nephew Piero Antinori finally persuaded the Marchese to market the wine. The rest is legend. In 1968 the first Sassicaia, named after the stony ground (Sassi = stones) came onto the market. The Cabernet Sauvignon with a small percentage of Cabernet Franc caused a sensation in Italy and soon received international awards. The Sassicaia became a cult by 1985 at the latest. The success was partly the fault of oenologist legend Giacomo Tachis, who had already blown the boundaries of Chianti Classico for the Antinori family with the Tignanello and who now also advised Marchese Incisa della Rochetta.
The Supertuscans were born.
Because of course it was over with the calm in this small place. After also Lodovico Antinori, the younger brother of family boss Piero here 1981 the Tenuta dell'Ornellaia, all the famous Italian wine producers wanted a vineyard here. In no time excavators dug up whole hills and the land prices exploded. But - these wines did not fit into any DOC rules. So they labelled it Vino da Tavola - table wine. An English-speaking wine critic turned it into "supertuscans". The international success was gigantic. This pleased the Italian Minister of Agriculture Goria, but that Vino da Tavola stood on the best Italian wines left him no peace. This is how the IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) category was created, which made it possible to market such wines with controlled origins.
In 1994 Bolgheri was promoted to DOC and the Tenuta San Guido, as the winery is actually called, was the first - and still only - winery to receive its own DOC Bolgheri-Sassicaia in 2013.
In the meantime there are many great wines from different producers. Argentiera, Ca' Marcanda (Angelo Gaja), Grattamacco, Guado al Tasso (Antinori), Kappa, Le Macchiole, Michele Satta, Poggio al Tesoro or Tenuta di Biserno are just a few of the names that can be heard alongside the top stags Sassicaia and Ornellaia, the latter belonging to Frescobaldi since 2005.
The almost 200 hectares at the beginning of the 2000s have now grown to more than 1,200, and this has become approx. 4.8 million litres of top-quality wine. Even if the big investment boom has finally subsided again, the Supertuscans from Bolgheri remain audience favourites. You don't treat yourself to anything else. SUPERIORE.DE
