“Villa Donoratico” Rosso Bolgheri DOC 2021
The grapes for Villa Donoratico, like those for Bolgheri Superiore, have recently been sourced from the estate's very best vineyards. Immediately after hand-picking, they are rigorously selected by 12 employees at 2 sorting tables and the ageing in 500-litre tonneaux ensures even more elegance and finesse. The qualitative gap to Argentiera, the winery's flagship, has thus been noticeably reduced and the wine sets new standards in the entire Bolgheri DOC.
Rich, sparkling ruby colour. Fine, subtle nose of redcurrant and herbal spice, some rosewood and fresh forest floor. Very complex and multi-layered on the palate, revealing more facets with every sip, the well-articulated fruit core is flanked by a fine-meshed tannin and leads into a very elegant, long finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Very dark in the glass, almost black. The nose is very powerful. Juicy black cherry, plus preserved blackberry and a hint of blueberry. Very inviting. A little lighter in the mouth, again lots of fruit and spicy notes, with an elegant woody flavour. Crisp tannins and acidity, both well interwoven. Powerful without being heavy, animating and with good drinking flow. Goes well with game dishes." Vinum
"A dense red with flavours of blackcurrants, blackberries, vanilla, cedar and chocolate, supported by slightly grainy tannins. Rather chunky overall, but with a nice length." Wine Spectator
"The nose starts with black cherries and blackberries, but eventually notes of salt and pepper come to the fore. On the palate, the cherries linger, with chocolate complementing the rich sweetness, before a complex finish of heat, spice and dusty chalk. The tannins linger while the acidity sings." Wine Enthusiast
"Dense ruby colour with a brightening rim. Spicy on the nose, with aromas of white pepper, blackcurrant, cocoa and light tobacco notes. Velvety and soft on the palate, with firm tannins and rich fruit, with a long finish." Falstaff
"Attractive Cabernet-based red wine with aromas of redcurrants and berries and undertones of lead pencil and spices. Herbs. Full-bodied with walnut, chocolate and fruit flavours. Very fine tannins with a finesse and beauty." James Suckling
"The Argentiera 2021 Bolgheri Rosso Villa Donoratico has a forward mouthfeel with plenty of immediate intensity in the mid-palate. The wine is articulate and generous with thick layers of black fruits, stewed plums, sweet earth and pressed blackberries. You get everything you want from a Bolgheri Rosso. You even get a wine that tastes more like a Bolgheri Superiore." Wine Advocate

“Scenario” Bolgheri Bianco DOC 2022
Scenario is Argentiera's new top-quality Vermentino from the Bolgheri DOC. The grapes were matured in equal parts in ceramic eggs (clayvers) and long barrique barrels (cigars). Fine nutty notes and the aroma of pale green apples emerge in the glass, accompanied by floral notes with a hint of lime and melon peel. Beautiful texture, mouth-filling, taut freshness with citrus and orange flavours. A delicious wine both young and with further bottle ageing. SUPERIORE.DE
"Vermentino, animates with its suppleness, but also the harmony of finesse and above all fruitiness, discreetly supported by a ripe acidity and pleasant balsamic notes." Vinum
"Sparkling, light golden yellow colour. Delicate, finely characterised bouquet of lemon zest, yellow peach, plus notes of wet stone and a hint of nutmeg. Velvety texture on the palate, with a delicate grip and invigorating acidity, juicy and persistent through to the mineral finish." Falstaff
"A multi-layered and very pretty Vermentino with sliced pears and green apples with a little lemongrass. Full-bodied, but not heavy. Hints of lime and minerals. Aromatic finish. Matured in clay ceramic vessels and small cigar-shaped barrels." James Suckling

“Argentiera” Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2021
Full-bodied, noble cuvée from the winery of the same name: aromas of red fruits, a light hint of roasted coffee, juniper, pepper and animal notes, an excellent tannin structure and a beautiful acidity give the "Bordeaux from Bolgheri" its exceptional independence and great elegance. SUPERIORE.DE
"The grapes come from the estate's highest vineyards. Elegant bouquet with spicy and ethereal-balsamic notes, paired with ripe dark berry fruit and fine tobacco notes. Extremely juicy and nuanced on the palate, carried by a mineral-spicy vein, elegant with a silky texture, the most elegant version of this wine to date." Weinwisser
"Outstanding blend of Cabernet and Merlot with a nose of blueberry nougat, also liquorice; perfectly balanced in the mouth, beautiful progression, flattering nuances of blackberry confit, herbs and vanilla on the lingering finish." Vinum
"Sparkling ruby colour with a dark core. Opens with pronounced spicy notes of macchia bushes, cardamom, then lots of dark berry fruit and tobacco. Round and polished in attack and finish, precisely crafted, fine-meshed tannins carry the wine, firm pressure on the final." Falstaff
"This 2021 is a big wine, packed with textural mass and powerful, sticky black fruits with some sous bois and mint flavours. The ample tannins are well rounded and the overall impression is that this is a quality wine that is still very youthful and needs time to blossom." Decanter
"A wonderfully fresh young wine with raspberries, blackcurrants, violets and lavender. Minerality. More blue fruits than in the past. Very racy and fine with a medium to full body and flavours of blue fruits such as raspberry and blueberry. The tannins show beautiful harmony and precision. Vertical with energy." James Suckling

"Expansive bouquet with ripe dark fruits, sweet spices and ethereal-balsamic notes, plus cedar and tobacco notes, flirts with overripeness. In the mouth, despite the dense structure with a supple drinking flow, appears polished and full-bodied with fine acidity, elaborate tannin, not as crisp as some others, rather round, subtle and gently melting, in the final then with a characterful mineral-iron-like and typical spice." Weinwisser
"Argentiera typically shines for its reddish fruit in this hilly southern part of Bolgheri, and here we have an intensity of red fruits, mostly cherry, which dominates the notes along with a floral touch. The style is juicy with refined, velvety tannins, zesty acidity, and a polished, elegant palate impression. The use of oak is balanced, with a soft toastiness and restrained tobacco aftertaste. Still tight at the moment, this will need bottle ageing to soften it." Decanter
"The Argentiera 2020 Bolgheri Superiore Argentiera is and remains a proud and cautious expression of a hot vintage. The fruit intensity starts with a bang, and the wine shifts up into sixth gear in the first few moments. However, the overall experience is somewhat shorter. Perhaps you should give it more time in the bottle." Wine Advocate
"A dark, brooding red, but also soft and complex, revealing flavours of blackcurrant, blackberry, plum, loam and sweet spice. Wonderfully balanced and fluid, with a long, detailed aftertaste that plays around the tannins. Impressive." Wine Spectator
"Charismatic bouquet of plum jam and herbs, also liquorice and pepper; powerful in the mouth with lots of juice, pressure and length." Vinum
"Rich flavours of currants and plums with undertones of chocolate and walnut. Full-bodied and chewy with layers of tannins. It is a big wine and very juicy with a polished and long finish. Needs five to six years to mellow." James Suckling
"Bright, rich ruby red colour with a delicate purple hue. Expressive and fragrant nose of rich wild berries, ripe cherries and a hint of dark chocolate, with fine floral components, precious wood and light spice. Shows itself on the palate with great melting and tightly interwoven tannins, very powerful, pure and clear in the course, very long, still young." Falstaff

“Ventaglio” Rosso Toscana IGT 2015 · 0,75l in OWC
"In making a great wine, the primary goal is to emphasise, perfect and seal in a bottle all the extraordinary characteristics of the territory: from the different soils to the microclimate, from the vibrant power of the Mediterranean maquis to the fresh sea breeze." Stanislaus Turnauer (winery owner)
Actually, the single vineyard of just 1 hectare is unique, as it only comprises a small hilltop in the shape of a fan (Italian: ventaglio). The grapes from here have always represented the top of the winery's production and so it was decided to vinify them separately from the 2015 vintage onwards - and the new top wine "Ventaglio" was born.
Due to the curious location and geographical orientation of the vineyard in all directions, there are morning grapes, midday grapes and evening grapes here and they represent the respective site-specific microclimate in an impressive way. Likewise, through the subsequent joint processing, they give their differences in aromatic development, maturity and freshness as a total work of art in this exceptional wine, in which every nuance of the terroir, no matter how small, is expressed correctly and in a balanced manner.
Complex and with a noble body, balanced by an undeniable elegance, Ventaglio appears as the overall expression of Cabernet Franc, which grows particularly well in the Bolgheri area. This first site wine of the Tenuta, symbol of decades of experience in single-varietal winemaking, is vinified only in special vintages in an extremely limited number of bottles. SUPERIORE.DE
"Very ripe and luscious but kept fresh by the principal variety and, presumably, the reliable breeze off the Tyrrhenian Sea. Still quite a bit of tannin in evidence, so food is definitely needed at the moment. Good choice to go for Cabernet Franc, likely to distinguish the wine and to keep it fresh as the climate warms up – even if its perfume is much fuller and less high-toned than that of, say, a Loire Cabernet Franc." Jancis Robinson
"1.2 hectares of vines at 120 metres above sea level, this is where the grapes grow for this Cabernet Franc, which is still blended with a little Cabernet Sauvignon in the first vintage, but will appear in purezza in the future: Beguiling berry aromas, also herbal and spicy notes; extremely harmonious texture with rough edges, the final is long as an eel with fine minerality." Vinum
"This is the first vintage of Tenuta Argentiera's latest single-vineyard wine, a Cabernet from a stunning vineyard shaped like a fan ("Ventaglio" in Italian) that rises around a solitary oak tree that offers a breathtaking view of the blue sea and the umbrella trees. The 2015 Ventaglio embraces this vast panorama with a multitude of black fruit aromas and flavours. Blackberry and plum are offset by smoke, campfire ash, minerals and wet river rock. These delicate earthy tones provide a beautiful backdrop to the opulent darkness within." Wine Advocate
"There is a purity to the black cherry, blackberry and plum fruit flavors in this version, along with some notes of evolution like sweet spices and heady, woodsy underbrush. Deftly oaked, with an iron underpinning. This is balanced and long, in a word, superb." Wine Spectator
"Very dense ruby with violet glints. Opens with emphatic spicy notes of cedar and juniper, some tar and liquorice, then lots of dark berry fruit. Very powerful on the palate, opens with dense tannin in many layers, very polished on the final, lots of dark berry fruit in the finish." Falstaff
"An absolutely beautiful red wine with aromas of blackberries, mushrooms, fresh herbs and chocolate. It is full-bodied, balanced and creamy with super polished and ripe tannins and a fantastic finish of beautiful fruit. I love the precision and focus. 85% cabernet franc and 15% cabernet sauvignon. Beautiful already, but in four or five years it will be fantastic." James Suckling

"This red has a lot going on, featuring intense, saturated flavors of black cherry, plum, fig, wild rosemary and iron, with a vibrant, dense structure. Balanced, with a long, resonant finish." Wine Spectator
"A beautiful, complex red with blackcurrants, sage, rosemary and sweet tobacco. Red tile, too. Full-bodied, very linear and fine-grained with great intensity and power. Such purity and length. This 100% cabernet franc is made from only one hectare, producing 3,000 bottles. Needs another three to four years to open and definitely one for the cellar." James Suckling
"This is a new wine from Tenuta Argentiera, an estate that is positioning itself well to become an icon on the Tuscan Coast. The 2016 Ventaglio is a headline expression of Cabernet Franc from a vineyard that I have been lucky enough to visit. It is lovely to see this spot with rows of vines that fan out (hence the name Ventaglio, or "fan" in Italian) from a sole oak tree that is perfectly framed between the cobalt Tyrrhenian Sea and the blue sky above. If there is a heaven where grapevines live, the Ventaglio vineyard may just be it. This vintage is super chiseled and sharp with generous and abundant black fruit that is tightly framed by spice, tobacco, dried herb and a touch of bitter chocolate and dusty mineral. There is some phenolic tartness that points to the wine's youth and bodes well for its future aging. The finish is layered, deep and rich." Wine Advocate

"Selection of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from the best sites of the estate: Powerful nose with notes of dark fruits, pepper and cocoa; supple yet full-bodied evolution, the fine-meshed tannins and the acidity in harmony, great length." Vinum
"Powerfully spicy bouquet with ethereal balsamic notes and ripe dark berry fruit with cedar and tobacco notes. Immensely juicy yet nuanced on the palate, carried by a mineral-spicy vein, dense style with balsamic iron-like notes on the spicy-creamy final." Weinwisser
"Noble ruby red, darkly luminous. Rich and inviting nose, opens with fine spicy notes, some sandalwood and cardamom, then rich forest fruit and ripe raspberry, after Amarena cherry in the finish. On the palate with noble spice and great melting, spreads balanced over the tongue, with tight tannin, very precise, shows finesse and elegance, with fine pressure on the palate, long finish." Falstaff
"A sophisticated red, exhibiting black currant, black cherry, olive and wild rosemary flavors. Turns more compact as this plays out on the long finish. Should relax in a year or two." Wine Spectator
"Graceful, restrained dark fruit aromas shine in the glass, with cassis, plum and chocolate. Despite its fruitiness, the Merlot is more leafy than ripe, very classic and elegant. On the palate the wine is thick and dusty yet ripe, with crisp acidity leading to a red fruit and clove finish." Decanter
"This is so nicely crafted, with tannins that are fine and integrated, creating such a fine, silky texture. It’s medium-bodied with fantastic length and a long, persistent finish. Try after 2024." James Suckling
"What a beauty and what an incredible leap forward to excellence. The Tenuta Argentiera 2019 Bolgheri Superiore Argentiera shows depth and wide shoulders with soft plushness and impeccable fruit. The full-bodied wine is dialed up on all levels from perfumes, intensity, mouthfeel, texture and freshness." Wine Advocate

Of all the wineries in the Bolgheri DOC, Tenuta Argentiera, located on a small plateau in the extreme south and surrounded by a varied natural environment, is the closest to the sea. From the top of the vineyards you have a wonderful view over Baratti in the south to Castiglioncello in the north, complemented by the panorama of the archipelago of Elba, Gorgona, Capraia with Corsica in the background. In Etruscan times, the plateau of the estate was home to natural springs and silver mines - hence the name Argentiera (Italian: Argento/Silver). Formerly owned by the influential Florentine noble family Serristorti and part of the ancient Donoratico estate, the winery, located between Livorno and Grosseto, is now a reference point for the Tuscan cultivation zone.
With plants of extraordinary elegance and great suppleness, the still very young winery has acquired its reputation as one of the most prestigious addresses in the Bolgheri region within just a few years. The fact that the first bottling in the Tenuta Argentiera was already a great success is thanks to Piero Antinori, a famous partner who brought all his experience to the new project and who is jointly responsible for the quality of the wines improving year after year. The 80 hectares of vineyards are almost ideally located and some of the most beautiful in the area. They are by far the highest cultivated areas in the Bolgheri DOC. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah thrive on the mostly clayey soils with considerable amounts of gravel. Since 2016, Stanislaus Turnauer, the owner of Tenuta Argentiera, has been responsible for the fate of the winery.
The grapes, selected by hand, are processed with the greatest care in the magnificent and generously designed winery. More than a thousand barrique barrels made of French oak wood are stored in the rooms intended for the maturation of the plants. The wines of the house are the logical consequence of the very high-quality berries and their unerring interpretation. Very often the prestige wine Bolgheri Superiore Argentiera, made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a small amount of Cabernet Franc, is highly appreciated by the critics' guild. A few years ago, two immaculate single vineyard wines - Giorgio Bartholomäus (Merlot) and Ophelia Maria, made from Cabernet Sauvignon, joined this top-quality plant. The youngest offspring of the noble bottle family is the pure Cabernet Franc Lavinia Maria, which convinced the critics from a standing start. SUPERIORE.DE
"In 2002 the first Argentiera was produced, an elegant cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a little Cabernet Franc - a vertical starter."Falstaff
