This is a particularly elegant, refined Scrio, reflecting the shift to hillside vineyards, which now make up 50% of the blend. The red fruit profile and medium-bodied structure are at times reminiscent of a Pinot. A sense of finesse and understatement is palpable. The 2021 was aged for 14 months in neutral French oak, in clayvers (small, round ceramic vessels) and in earthenware amphorae, which brings out the wine's vibrant fruit even more. "The Scrio 2021 is a wine of generosity, depth and texture. It offers a full embrace of the senses with mulberry, plum, soft spices and camphor ash. In the distance, you can detect the peppercorns and smoked bacon that usually characterise this grape variety, but the focus is on softer tones of cardamom or candied orange in dark chocolate. There is even a hint of blue flowers or lilac. I love the precision and decisive length of this Syrah and the tannins, which remain supple and velvety. This is an exceptional Tuscan Syrah."
