The Livon family, who come from Friuli, owns a number of wineries scattered throughout Italy in regions that are particularly suitable for red wines. In order to remain competitive in a rapidly changing market, the family decided between 1992 and 1997 to purchase three wineries. This included the Borgo Salcetino winery in the municipality of Radda in the heart of the Chianti Classico area. Dorino Livon has come a long way in his life and over the years has become one of the most successful and famous winegrowers in Friuli. The story is rooted in passion, family tradition and love for the native land of Friuli, according to the homepage of Aziende Agricole Livon.
Today the Borgo Salcetino estate is managed by Valneo and Tonino Livon. Dorino's two sons had already joined their father's business in the early 1980s. Today about half of the 30 hectares of land are used for viticulture. The Sangiovese and Canaiolo varieties thrive in the well-kept vineyards. In addition, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, the two most famous French grape varieties, were planted. The production guidelines of the family stipulate for all farms that human intervention in the cellar must be minimal. Classic large barrels are used for the maturation of the plants.
The wines of the Tuscan farm are considered by experts to be balanced and very strong in character. In addition to the red "Rossole", a cuvée of Sangiovese and Merlot, the award-winning wines include various Chianti Classico wines, including the repeatedly award-winning "Chianti Classico Lucarello Riserva". The "Chianti Classico Riserva 2012" was awarded two and a half glasses by the wine guideGambero Rosso.
The corporate strategy is broadly diversified with five different estates and more than 200 hectares of vineyards. The different products of Livon, Tenuta Roncalto and Villa Chiopris (Friuli), Borgo Salcetino (Tuscany) and Fattoria Col Santo (Umbria) cover different market segments. (superiore.de)
