“Collezione Fabrizio Bianchi” Chardonnay Toscana IGT 2023
The vines, which are over 50 years old, are located outside the Chianti Classico appellation and were planted by Fabrizio Bianchi as a kind of "heart project" back in the 1970s. Inspired by the great white wines from Burgundy, it was initially fermented exclusively in wooden barrels. Since 2000, however, the proportion of grapes fermented in oak has steadily decreased, so that today almost 70% of the grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks, which gives the wine freshness and elegance.

Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2021
Castello di Monsanto's Chianti Classico Riserva is a fabulous wine that punches well above its weight. Dark cherry, plum, liquorice, spice, leather, lavender and tobacco run through this wonderfully nuanced and vibrant Riserva. It is surprisingly expressive and open even at a young age and will continue to drink well for over 15 years. Sweet floral notes extend the finish of this medium-bodied, graceful and well-structured wine. Interesting Storage potential! SUPERIORE.DE

“Chimera” Occhio di Pernice Vin Santo del Chianti Classico DOC 2006 · in gift box
With the 2006 vintage, Monsanto's Vin Santo was released for the first time as "Occhio di Pernice", i.e. it was made from 100% Sangiovese grapes. It is only vinified in the very best years, the grapes are carefully harvested by hand in October and then placed on special racks where they rest until the beginning of the following year. After gentle pressing, the must is sealed and fermented in small oak, cherry and chestnut barrels in the Vinsantaia, where it is exposed to seasonal temperature fluctuations.

“Il Poggio” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2019
Il Poggio 2019 slowly unfolds its breathtaking aromas of cherry blossom, blood orange, eucalyptus and raspberry. Initially taut and straightforward, it then unfolds on the palate with ripe wild berries underpinned by slate. The chalky tannins keep it firmly under control. This wine will continue to unfold its complex nuances for at least a few decades. Fantastic depth and energy. Incidentally, Il Poggio Gran Selezione was the first Chianti Classico in the appellation to be vinified and bottled as a single-vineyard wine (Cru) in 1962 - a revolution at the time! SUPERIORE.DE

It was above all the charm and magic of the beautiful Collina del Poggio that led Fabrizio Bianchi to settle in the Castello di Monsanto in 1961. Just one year later, his vision of producing a cru in the Chianti region took shape: The first 6,000 bottles of Vigneto il Poggio changed hands. The fact that Bianchi made Plot II Poggio a truly unique location was considered revolutionary at the time. The introduction of water-cooled steel tanks and the switch from chestnut wood to Slovenian oak was at least trend-setting.
The clear and uncompromising intention of Bianchi to produce high-quality and authentic Tuscan wines by hand and in harmony with nature has not changed to this day. But while his quality concept was smiled at in the beginning, the family estate has long since become part of the establishment and one of Tuscany's globally recognised traditional businesses. Meanwhile, the village near the municipality of Barberino Val d'Elsa lying Castello run by daughter Laura. She decided against a career as a lawyer in order to continue the Tenuta in the tradition of her father, who was born in San Gimignano. She even developed his style further.
The vines are grown at an average altitude of 280 metres above sea level. The mineral-rich Galestro soils are the ideal breeding ground for them. The wines produced on the western edge of Chianti Classico reflect the enormous potential of the terroir. The noble drops have an extraordinary personality, are complex and of great depth.
Andrea Giovannini has worked as an oenologist at the Castello di Monsanto since 2001. He had previously been responsible for the wines of Ornellaia for several years. However, winemaking is not the task of a single person, but of a team of three. SUPERIORE.DE
"The winery is probably one of the most fascinating in Chianti Classico. Monsanto is an innovative company that has transformed innovation into tradition and classicism."Gambero Rosso 2012
