“Petrignano” Chianti Classico DOCG 2020 (BIO)
Dievoles Chianti Classico Petrignano is the result of the endeavour to highlight the identity characteristics of particularly suitable vineyards, leading to ever more precise expressions of Sangiovese. Petrignano is the name of a characteristic area with a soil rich in minerals and stones. At an altitude of around 330 metres, rocks protrude from the ground that are typical of the geological formation of Monte Morello. The abundance of stones, the depth of the roots and the low growth of the vines result in an expressive and lush wine from this characteristic and authentic cru site.
Intense ruby red colour. Very appealing bouquet dominated by ripe fruit, cherry and blackberry flavours. Juicy, full and rich on the palate, with flavours of blackberries and ripe fruit. Warm and velvety finish with fine and soft tannins that are very accentuated and interwoven with the fine acidity structure. SUPERIORE.DE
"Brilliant medium ruby red with orange reflections. Lively cherry nose with some signs of development and hints of tobacco leaf and sweet spice. Flavoursome, juicy cherry fruit and crisp tannins. More energetic on the palate than on the nose, and that's where it hits the spot." Jancis Robinson
"Dark forest fruit with an earthy character offers great appeal. High acidity and tannins with very good length." Decanter
"This is a new addition to the Dievole portfolio with a cool retro-style label. The Chianti Classico Petrignano 2020 from organic farming is made from 100% Sangiovese, fermented in cement tulips and aged for 12 months in large oak barrels. The winemaking process is simple and to the point. The results show a vibrant freshness and a beautiful purity of fruit with a concentrated finish." Wine Advocate
"A supple red, imbued with a ray of cherry and strawberry fruit, with a texture that is silky at first, only to be overtaken by firm, dusty tannins. The finish reveals almond, earth and herbal notes that linger for a long time. Give it time for the two halves to come together." Wine Spectator
"A delicious, crisp red with very fine tannins and a lovely, delicate finish. Very tasty and with a creamy texture. Fresh finish." James Suckling
"From soils with a great limestone component, in particular Alberese, a pure Sangiovese with a blackberry aroma, hints of citron thyme and orange zest, then a finish with floral notes. Compact and dense palate, citrus-officinal return." Luca Gardini

“Casanova” Chianti Classico DOCG 2020 (BIO)
Dievole's new Chianti Classico Casanova, just released with the debut 2020 vintage, is the result of a quest to highlight the identity characteristics of particularly suitable vineyards, leading to ever more precise expressions of Sangiovese. The Casanova grapes come from a vineyard at an altitude of about 400 metres, with an ideal south-west to south-east exposure and composed mainly of sandstone rocks Macigno del Chianti. The result is a Chianti Classico that is very immediate and direct, with a beautiful acidity to boot. It has the elegance and freshness and the bright, radiant fruit of Chianti Classico "as it used to be".
Bright, luminous ruby red. On the nose, classic aromas of the grape variety with notes of small red fruits such as cherries and sour cherries alternating with spicy notes. On the palate, it is soft, carried by a dense tannin structure and a spicy, velvety finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sour cherries, raspberries, olives and tomato leaves on the nose. Dense and tasty with medium body and still slightly chewy tannins. Rustic and light-hearted." James Suckling
"Packaged with the dark green label, this is a new submission from Dievole. The organic 2020 Chianti Classico Casanova is all Sangiovese from a site with typical sandstone soils, locally called Macigno del Chianti, that formed 30 million years ago. These conditions help to underline the aromatic finesse of Sangiovese, and indeed, this wine offers a pretty medley of wild fruits, mint and blue flower." Wine Advocate
"Infused with black cherries and blackberries, this red wine starts elegantly and firms up on the textured finish. Iron, tar and wild herbs are evident on the long, tobacco-driven finish." Wine Spectator

“Catignano” Chianti Classico DOCG 2020 (BIO)
Dievole's new Chianti Classico Catignano, just released with the debut 2020 vintage, is the result of the effort to highlight the identity characteristics of particularly suitable vineyards, leading to ever more precise expressions of Sangiovese. Catignano is a plateau at 370 metres above sea level, with vineyards of different ages and a large proportion of Alberese. The exposure is west and southeast, which means plenty of sun during the day, but also cold temperatures at night, with a good temperature range that favours the aromatic development of the grapes.
On the nose, notes of red fruits, then a tertiary complexity of tobacco leather, graphite and liquorice. Warm and juicy on the palate, with notes of ripe red fruits. A juicy, sun-drenched cru. SUPERIORE.DE
"Made with 100% organic Sangiovese, the 2020 Chianti Classico Catignano sees fruit from a plateau of vines that are fully exposed to the bright luminosity of the Tuscan sun. This wine offers more fruit weight as a result, with dark cherry aromas, wet stone and dusty mineral." Wine Advocate
"A balanced red with a perfumed nose of cherries, red currants, wafers and dried flowers. Also lemon peel. Medium-bodied with fine, firm tannins and fresh acidity. Balanced and lively with a flattering texture. A fresh and flavourful long finish." James Suckling
"A round red with aromas of cherry, raspberry, iron and tobacco. Firm and dense, also compact on the finish, but still needs time to fully develop. All the elements are there, so be patient." Wine Spectator

“Campinovi” Bianco Toscana IGT 2021 (BIO)
Bright straw yellow with golden reflections. Fresh yellow apple, some pear and hay on the nose. Full-bodied and pleasant on the palate, then savoury and with well-dosed acid wire. Wonderfully structured, with a tang that makes you long for the next glass. A great white wine from central Tuscany. SUPERIORE.DE
"This is vibrant and complex, featuring lemon oil, peach, apple, vanilla and toast aromas and flavors. Elegant in profile, this white is charming, harmonious and long." Wine Spectator
"Made with 100% Trebbiano, the organic Dievole 2021 Campinovi shows aromas of citrus, apple, orchard fruit and hints of exotic vanilla. The wine has a slightly waxy or creamy side to its constitution that would work with a pairing of chicken with Moroccan spices." Wine Advocate
"The 2021 Campinovi is a gorgeous, understated white. Floral notes meld into a core of green pear, apple, mint, white pepper and tangerine peel. Airy and gracious, this is impeccably done." Vinous
"A pure trebbiano, showing density and freshness. Full and phenolic with excellent length and depth. Drinks well, but will age beautifully." James Suckling

“Novecento 30 anni” Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2019 (BIO)
The anniversary edition of the Novecento opens on the nose with layers of dark fruits, spices, tar and smoke. Then on the palate, there is terrific depth and hints of earth or crushed black rock. Novecento offers a great texture that is velvety and rich without ever seeming heavy or sluggish. Long and crisp on the spicy finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Ripe nose with aromas of maraschino, herbs and leather; the tannins robust, showing character and length, solid finish. Pair with a T-bone steak." Vinum
"The organic Dievole 2019 Chianti Classico Riserva Novecento is slow to open and is neutral on first nose. It does eventually show some dark fruit and wild cherry that is nicely intermingled with spice, leather and tar. There is a warm or savory quality to this wine with autumn leaf and forest floor. The blend is 95% Sangiovese, 3% Canaiolo and 2% Colorino. This release celebrates the 30th vintage of this wine." Wine Advocate
"The 2019 vintage was one of the most balanced in recent years in Chianti Classico. Here, as Antonini confessed, there is no intention to make an approachable wine. The colour shines in its ruby red tinge; the nose is intensely fresh, flowery and slightly reductive at first, before an orange vert emerges from the depths to overlay black cherry and creamy strawberry. The attack is firm, crunchy and extracted. Fierce acidity supports a youthful cherry fruit expression with enough concentration and a thick finish. Quite austere for 2019, but amazing considering its ability to age." Decanter
"A tight, tannic version, this red has a strong grip on its currant, cherry and strawberry fruit. Revealing mineral and tar details, this remains succulent and breezy through the lingering aftertaste; just needs to absorb the tannins." Wine Spectator
"This is extremely aromatic, with strawberry and cherry character and hints of orange peel and flowers. Medium-bodied with very fine tannins that are integrated and polished. Bright acidity at the finish, Made from a mix of parcels from the highest vineyards of Dievole. Beautiful to drink now, but will age will, too." James Suckling

“Vigna Sessina” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2018 (BIO)
The third vintage of Dievoles Gran Selezione presents itself dark, deep and with wonderfully powerful cherry and blackberry notes. The palate is very defined and precise with an archetypal interpretation of the grape variety. Everything is in the right place here, the balance and clarity impressing with every sip. The finish is of terrificlength and depth. This is Sangiovese at its purest, with endless energy and expression. SUPERIORE.DE
"Stylish bouquet of red berries and flowers; juicy on the palate, the tannic acid framework balanced, engaging evolution with polish and fresh fruit but also perfectly placed balsamic nuances through to the final." Vinum
"Fresh red fruit and a hint of mint, spice and tea on the nose. Refined palate with lots of powdery tannins giving texture and frame. Clean finish with a salty touch." Decanter
"The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna di Sessina shows a streamlined personality with pinpoint aromas of wild berries, forest floor and dried blackberries. This wine is vertical, focused and even a little edgy in personality thanks to its firm tannins and fresh acidity. There is a brief ripeness in the mid-palate, but overall the wine is very balanced." Wine Advocate
"Bright aromas of flowers, citrus, strawberries and cherries follow a full body with bright, very lively tannins and zesty acidity. Energetic on the finish. Very clean and bright. A wine for the cellar, although it is already drinking wonderfully." James Suckling
"Pervasive aromas recall cherry, raspberry, iron and sage in this red wine, while rich fruit flavours balance a backbone of assertive tannins. It reverberates from start to finish, ending with a long aftertaste of fruit, earth and tobacco. Still firm, but harmonious overall." Wine Spectator

"Seems a little cheesy with its "sugary" fruit and sweetness, but can please with the juicy vein and the robust tannin as well as the fine acidity and lets the wood resonate skilfully in the background." Weinwisser
"From a vineyard 420 metres above sea level: profound bouquet of red berries, lilacs and herbs; juicy on the palate, beautifully polished, supple tannins and crisp acidity, fruity and spicy finish. Successful." Vinum
"Medium ruby red with first orange-coloured reflections. A little dusty, probably from the oak, with shy, fragrant raspberry fruit underneath. With aeration, the nose becomes finer and more concentrated, with a hint of iron. The palate is elegant and delicate, with plenty of freshness." Jancis Robinson
"The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna Sessina 2019 comes from a one-hectare parcel with a mixture of clay and rock. Cured meat, lavender, spices, dried herbs and sweet tobacco lend the distinctive bouquet a beguiling complexity. The 2019 has a medium body, remarkable structural depth and the necessary structure to age." Vinous
"Sessina is a 5.5-hectare, south-facing vineyard on Macigno (sandstone soil), but with a limestone vein running through it. It shines in the fresh 2019 vintage - it is the best bottling of this wine that I have tasted. It has a lively aroma of mint, sage and a hint of chocolate. The dark plum core is ripe yet crisp, with tannins that are gently textured and grip in all the right places. Refined and elegant, but not without depth, it offers a tantalising interplay of warm Mediterranean balsamic notes with cooler forest tones. Delicious." Decanter
"Polished and pretty nose of dried flowers, cloves, mocha, dried cherries and chocolate orange. It is medium-bodied with firm tannins. Beautiful freshness and balance, with a long and elegant finish." James Suckling
"The organic Dievole 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna di Sessina is a true beauty, offering elegance and power in two ways in this vintage. There are plenty of black fruit flavours that delicately fade into crushed stone, spices and grilled herbs. The winery opts for fermentation in cement and rapid ageing in oak for about a year. These steps ensure intact primary aromas and the wine is characterised by energy and lively flavours." Wine Advocate
"With aromas and flavours of strawberries, cherries, roses and minerals, this pretty red wine is firmly structured and closes tightly on the finish. Nevertheless, it is very fruity and has a very long aftertaste." Wine Spectator

"Lustrous ruby. Deep, complex cherry nose. Mouth-filling cherry fruit with lots of chewy tannins and vibrant, juicy acidity on the finish. With this wine the estate has turned a corner." Jancis Robinson
"A bright, easygoing CC with aromas and flavors of sour cherries and flowers. Barely medium-bodied with some racy, grapefruit freshness on the palate. Remains bright and fresh." James Suckling
"This is a new submission from Dievole that focuses on the Sangiovese grape exclusively. The organic 2019 Chianti Classico Petrignano is fermented in tulip-shaped cement vats and aged in botte grande for 13 months. The wine offers easy balance and freshness with textbook aromas of cherry, wild fruit, tar and smoke. It's all very becoming for an entry-level wine such as this." Wine Advocate
"Aromas of licorice, menthol and ripe dark-skinned berry carry over to the linear, savory palate along with orange zest before an almost salty finish. It's polished, with fine-grained tannins." Wine Enthusiast
"Petrignano is a new wine for Dievole, the result of the estate’s collaboration with Chilean soil specialist, Pedro Parra. It comes from a recently planted 15ha site between 300 and 330 metres above sea level, distinguished by an abundance of limestone near the surface. The nose is flinty and iron-speckled, giving way to sun-soaked wild berries. It balances the generous warmth of the south with freshness and long, chalky tannins, sneaking some vibrant acidity in there too." Decanter
"This beautiful version of Chianti Classico shows off Castelnuovo Berardenga territory, with notes of blackberry jam on the nose, then touches of lime tree and nutmeg. Iodine-brackish sip, of nice density, with persistent and fruity-officinal return on the closure." Luca Gardini

“Selezione 3 Cru” Chianti Classico DOCG 2020 (BIO) · 6 bottles in gift box
Dievoles three new single-vineyard wines are the result of an effort to highlight the identity characteristics of particularly suitable vineyards in Chianti Classico, leading to ever more precise expressions of Sangiovese. This gift box of 6 contains 2 bottles of each of the three single vineyards.
2 bottles à 0,75l | "Petrignano" Chianti Classico DOCG 2020 (BIO)
Petrignano is the name of a characteristic area with a soil rich in minerals and stones. At an altitude of about 330 metres, rocks protrude from the ground, typical of the geological formation of Monte Morello. The abundance of stones, the depth of the roots and the low growth of the vines result in an expressive and lush wine from this characteristic and authentic cru site. Intense ruby red. Very appealing bouquet dominated by ripe fruit, cherry and blackberry aromas. Juicy, full and rich on the palate, with blackberry and ripe fruit flavours. Warm and velvety finish with fine and soft tannins, very accentuated interwoven with the fine acidity framework. SUPERIORE.DE

Decanter: 91 points/silver medal2 bottles à 0,75l | "Casanova" Chianti Classico DOCG 2020 (BIO)
The Casanova grapes come from a vineyard at an altitude of about 400 metres, with an ideal south-west to south-east exposure and consisting mainly of sandstone rocks Macigno del Chianti. On the palate it is soft, carried by a dense tannin structure and a spicy, velvety finish. SUPERIORE.DE

James Suckling: 90 points2 bottles à 0,75l | "Catignano" Chianti Classico DOCG 2020 (BIO)
Catignano is a plateau at 370 metres above sea level, with vineyards of different ages and a large proportion of Alberese. The exposure is westerly and south-easterly, which means plenty of sun during the day, but also cold temperatures at night, with a good temperature range that favours the aromatic development of the grapes. On the nose, notes of red fruits, then a tertiary complexity of tobacco leather, graphite and liquorice. Warm and juicy on the palate, with notes of ripe red fruits. A juicy, sun-drenched cru. “Novecento 30 anni” Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2019 (BIO) · 6 bottles in OWC

“Vigna Sessina” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2018 (BIO) · 6 bottles in OWC

"Featuring strawberry, cherry, rose and mineral aromas and flavors, this pretty red is firmly structured, closing up on the tightly wound finish. Nonetheless, there's plenty of fruit, and this is super long on the aftertaste." Wine Spectator

Legends always surround great old wineries in Italy. This is also true of the Dievole vineyard ("Dio vuole - God wills"), which was founded in 1090. Supposedly, two friends of the monastery's head Abbate Rolando leased the land for grape cultivation and paid three loaves of bread, one capon and six silver coins per year.
The Azienda Agricola Dievole, located twelve kilometres northeast of Siena, near Castelnuovo Berardenga at the picturesque village of Vagliagli at an altitude of up to 450 metres above sea level in the hills of the Chianti Classico region, has been regularly awarded for its excellent wines by international experts for many years. Since 2013, the Dievole winery has belonged to billionaire Alejandro Pedro Bulgheroni, who already owns several estates in Argentina, Uruguay, Australia, Bordeaux and California. In Italy, he is also involved in Montalcino and Bolgheri.
The well-known winery in Chianti Classico received new management and is being systematically converted to organic cultivation. The 2017 vintage was the first certified organic vintage. Alberto Antonini was hired for the wine production. The renowned Oenologist and wine consultant has already worked for some well-known wineries, in Italy for Antinori and Frescobaldi as well as at wineries in the USA and South America. He has also worked for Bulgheroni's Bodeka Garzón in Uruguay.
The total area of over 500 hectares of land includes 16 vineyards, each of which is looked after by its own team. By 2020, 150 hectares are to be in production with wine. The rest are forests and 10% olive groves. The cellar technology has also been renewed in recent years. The fermentation tanks are new, conical cement tanks, which have also been used in Bordeaux in famous chateaux like Cheval Blanc. Large wooden barrels are mainly used for ageing.
Today, wine production at Dievole ranges from white and red IGT wines to Chianti Classico DOCG and Riserva to products such as Vin Santo, grappa and olive oil. And with the 2020 vintage, three Chianti Classico from small vineyards were vinified separately for the first time. They are the result of the effort to emphasise the identity characteristics of particularly suitable vineyards, which leads to ever more precise expressions of Sangiovese. Thus, at Dievole, the focus on vineyards, which has already been introduced for the Gran Selezione for a few years and has also been decided by the consortium with the UGA (unita geografiche aggiunte), is now also given a new taste and qualitative dimension in the "basic wine" Chianti Classico.
Incidentally, the winery is always worth a detour: as early as the 1980s, the main building, a Renaissance villa, was renovated and transformed into a beautiful hotel and wine resort. And in the meantime, the other former palazzi and farmhouses have also been renovated for overnight stays and events. SUPERIORE.DE
