The anniversary edition of the Novecento opens on the nose with layers of dark fruits, spices, tar and smoke. Then on the palate, there is terrific depth and hints of earth or crushed black rock. "The organic Dievole 2019 Chianti Classico Riserva Novecento opens slowly and is neutral on the first nose. It eventually shows some dark fruits and wild cherries that blend nicely with spices, leather and tar. The wine has a warm and spicy quality with autumn leaves and forest floor. "The 2019 vintage was one of the most balanced in recent years in Chianti Classico. Here, as Antonini confessed, there is no intention to make an accessible wine. The colour glows ruby red, the nose is intensely fresh, floral and slightly reductive at first before an orange tone rises from the depths, overlaying black cherries and creamy strawberries. The attack is firm, crisp and rich in extract. Powerful acidity supports the youthful expression of the cherry fruit with sufficient concentration and a dense finish.
