“Berardenga” Chianti Classico DOCG 2022
Sangiovese in its purest form: bright ruby colour with a broad garnet rim. Rich in fruity and floral aromas, multi-layered, herbal, deep and well-polished with further development potential. A full-bodied and harmonious Chianti Classico with a highly authentic and very inviting style. SUPERIORE.DE
"Walking a fine line between cherry and berry flavours and notes of earth and iron, this red wine is bright and juicy in the middle of the palate and firms up on the long finish. Balanced overall, it needs a year to come together." Wine Spectator
"At the south-eastern end of the Chianti Classico, the Fèlsina vineyard extends into the Chianti Colli Senesi area, where on a clear day you can see as far as Siena, just 15 kilometres away. In its sun-drenched surroundings, the 2022 is immediate and exuberant in its charm. Reminiscent of maritime pine, Mediterranean scrub and wild yellow broom, it gains concentration as it glides smoothly across the palate, where stony minerals meet ripe strawberries. Lively, if a little lively on the finish." Decanter
"The Chianti Classico Berardenga 2022 is magnificent. Rich and deep, the 2022 is an archetype of Castelnuovo Berardenga. Black cherry, leather, spice, tobacco, menthol and dried herbs characterise this powerful, classic Chianti Classico. It is beautifully made, especially for this year." Vinous
"A balanced, seductive and lively red wine with flavours of wild berries, red currants, warm herbs and some crushed peppercorns. It is medium-bodied with fine tannins. A juicy berry character with a hint of spice brings energy and vitality to the palate and tactile finish." James Suckling

"Firmer and deeper, more complex, oxidative, somewhat nutty, spicy and dried herbs as well as candied yellow fruit aromas with a hint of orange blossom, nutmeg and honey. Concentrated fruit with somewhat smoky and spicy wood notes as well as nuances reminiscent of hazelnut and almond brittle, very fine acidity, has a grip of ripe tannin, dense and persistent, mocha and wild mushrooms in the background, oxidative tones again, good depth, long, complex finish with concentrated juice and a hint of bread spice." “Maestro Raro” Cabernet Sauvignon Toscana IGT 2018
Maestro Raro shines first with its lively colour and then impresses with a bouquet that reveals a wonderful blackberry scent after spices, leather and tobacco aromas. The concentrated taste spreads softly, in which a stable acid structure cooperates perfectly with the tannin structure. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark ruby red with violet. In the nose noble spicy note, after cassis and elderberries, carried by cloves and a hint of red pepper. Spicy on the palate with a slight peppery-animal note, very warm, has tension throughout and comes back juicy on the final." Falstaff
"The currant character is supercharged with wood and bark highlights. It’s full-bodied with lots of blackberry and blackcurrant undertones. Chewy and firm. Needs time to open." James Suckling
"The 2018 Maestro Raro is dense, powerful and rich. As always, Maestro Raro is a decidedly Tuscan Cabernet Sauvignon. Black fruit, leather, spice and smoke are front and center. This burly Cabernet is a bit angular, but it certainly has plenty of character." Vinous
"This is an exacting and powerful expression of Cabernet Sauvignon from the heart of Tuscany. The Fèlsina 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Maestro Raro always stands out in a crowd, and it definitely stands apart in this portfolio. The wine is sultry and rich in personality, sporting tightly wrapped tannins that will need time to soften and unwind. At its core, the wine shows concentrated black fruit flavors, but there are hints of spice, baker's chocolate and smoky tobacco that add to the complexity and the aromatic lift of the bouquet." “Rancia” Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2020
Sparkling, medium-dense ruby-garnet colour. The Rancia Riserva from the single vineyard of the same name is powerful and energetic, expressive and dense. The aroma is characterised by ripe, full-bodied fruit and mineral notes. The flavour is earthy, tannic and terroir-influenced, beautifully articulated, fine and with an enjoyable length. A wine that requires sensitivity and/or a few years of rest. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby red colour. On the nose, it smells of beautiful precious wood, lightly of coconut flakes, ripe cherries, cranberries and cold smoke. Compact on the palate with tightly woven tannins, beautifully savoury, opens up on the final with warm-hearted fruit, carried by a full-bodied, long finish." Falstaff
"Brilliant medium ruby red colour. Seductive, sophisticated nose of raspberries with oak notes and mineral, stony notes. Almost a little exotic. Juicy raspberry fruit with lots of gravelly tannins. Elegant and long. Undeniably attractive now." Jancis Robinson
"On the nose, small red fruits, redcurrants, then notes of laurel and peony. The mouthfeel is flavoursome, very taut, with a strawberry and juniper berry note that keeps reappearing and an excellent persistence." Luca Gardini
"Intense, with complex flavours of cherries, blackberries, violets, minerals and leafy undergrowth, this red wine is silky and almost racy. Harmonious and persistent, with a long, resonant aftertaste that reflects red fruit, mineral and spicy elements." Wine Spectator
"A sophisticated and very refined Rancia with sweet berries, cedar wood and a hint of chocolate. Medium body. Fresh and concentrated. A little restrained on the finish. It needs two or three years to develop." James Suckling
"The Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia 2020 shows a beautiful minerality with dusty notes of crushed limestone or flint. This is the wine's special signature, which comes into its own particularly well in a warm vintage like this one. The Rancia also offers a superficial quality with red and violet fruit tones. The 2020 vintage shows lovely concentration and richness with wild cherry and plum, but ultimately the wine leaves an elegant mineral finish. The Rancia will need additional bottle ageing." “Rancia” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2021
Sparkling, medium-dense ruby-garnet colour. The Rancia Riserva from the single vineyard of the same name is powerful and energetic, expressive and dense and has been elevated to "Gran Selezione" status for the first time.
"Dark, shiny ruby-red core with a garnet-coloured rim. Black cherry and blueberry on the nose, with notes of forest floor, liquorice and cedar wood. On the palate with a fruity core, on a tightly woven tannin structure alternating with fresh acidity and great length." Falstaff
"Quite fruity and fresh, with medium body, fine tannins and undertones of dark cherry, blood orange and cedar. It is closed now, but shows focus and brightness. Straightforward tannins run through the centre." James Suckling
"The 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Rancia, which has now been elevated to Gran Selezione status, displays a dark fruit profile with blackcurrants and wild plums. These black and purple fruits are followed by mineral notes of slate and iron ore. The finish is dusty and dry as these mineral notes are enhanced by powdery tannins." Wine Advocate
"The core of cherry, pomegranate and raspberry fruit is underlined by notes of Tuscan scrub, iron, vanilla and tobacco as this intense red wine builds its power to the expansive final, where its fruit, mineral and wild herb flavours converge. It shows fine balance and length; it just needs time to absorb the oak." Wine Spectator
"The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Rancia 2021 is the first vintage in which Rancia is transitioning from Riserva to Gran Selezione. The 2021 combines power and finesse in a way that only Rancia can. Black cherry, leather, game, spices, liquorice, tobacco and grilled herbs are combined in a brooding yet elegant Gran Selezione that lives up to expectations. Outstanding." Vinous

“Fontalloro” Rosso Toscana IGT 2020
The Fontalloro is a single-varietal Sangiovese that is matured for up to 20 months in new and two-year-old barriques.brilliant ruby colour with a light garnet rim, mineral, woody-fruity aroma of cherry, cedar, blueberry and hazelnut. With aeration, the flavours become increasingly complex and the terroir influence very clear. Compact and very present on the palate with fine-grained tannins and classic proportions. Very high ageing potential and one of the best Sangiovese in central Tuscany every year. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby red with a delicately brightening rim. On the nose, initially fresh yeast pastries, then juicy cherries, watermelon and redcurrants, minimal alcoholic aftertaste, precious wood. Taut tannins and beautiful acidity on the palate, savoury, then becomes a little more expansive on the finish, albeit juicy." Falstaff
"The Fontalloro 2020 is a sensual, enveloping wine. Dark red fruits, sweet spices, tobacco, cedar and mint are all beautifully pronounced. Fontalloro is a pure Sangiovese from vineyards located between the Chianti Classico and Colli Senesi appellations. The duality is very evident here." Vinous
"Very refined and complex nose with hints of pine cones, botanicals and dark mushrooms to savoury oranges, minerals, fine musk and plums. Juicy, dry but structured on the palate with stacks of dusty tannins developing on the savoury, full-bodied palate. Long and quite mineral on the finish. Better from 2025." James Suckling
"A vibrant red with fleeting aromas of lavender and wild rosemary mingling with flavours of cherry, orange peel, earth, minerals and tobacco. Despite its youthful vigour, it is elegant, with excellent harmony, refined tannins and a long, complex aftertaste." Wine Spectator
"Intriguing entry with notes of ripe stone fruit, red berries, sandalwood, undergrowth and fine spice; with aeration a lot of fullness and also pressure, without missing the charm, the tannins fine-grained, the finish very long and with maturity potential." Vinum
"The 2020 Fontalloro, made from a special selection of Sangiovese, is generous and rich, the wine has a medium-dark colour and is concentrated. The winemaking team has succeeded in giving this vintage a particularly elegant side. The wine offers pronounced notes of cherry and wild plum with delicate spice in the background. As with the other wines in this portfolio, there is a beautiful mineral note that runs like a common thread through all of these new releases." Wine Advocate
"100% Sangiovese from two parcels located between Chianti Classico and Chianti Colli Senesi. A wine that shows hints of black cherry, rhubarb and juniper on the nose, with notes of eucalyptus and wild mint. The sip is taut, with spicy tannins. The finish is deep, the aftertaste fruity and balsamic." Luca Gardini

“Fontalloro” Rosso Toscana IGT 2021
The Fontalloro is a single-varietal Sangiovese that is matured for up to 20 months in new and two-year-old barriques.brilliant ruby colour with a light garnet rim, mineral, woody-fruity aroma of cherry, cedar, blueberry and hazelnut. With aeration, the flavours become increasingly complex and the terroir influence very clear. Compact and very present on the palate with fine-grained tannins and classic proportions. Very high ageing potential and one of the best Sangiovese in central Tuscany every year. SUPERIORE.DE
"Noble shimmering ruby red colour. Fresh nose of crisp blueberries and cherries, with notes of precious wood and hints of lilac. Clear and firm on the palate with tightly woven tannins, powerful and juicy with considerable length on the finish." Falstaff
"Aromas of raspberries, herbs and tobacco open the round dance, with floral components and then a little orange zest; the attack is full of character, but also with a lot of polish and excellent, long-lasting tannins; the finish is fruity and noble. Anyone who appreciates suppleness and independent personality will love this wine." Vinum
"It's smoky, with a core of cherry, blackberry and plum flavours. Menthol, wild herbs and iron add accents, and though it's supple, there's a solid structure of bright acidity and moderate, dusty tannins, with fine balance and length." Wine Spectator
"Bright and fresh with a lovely energy. Flavours of orange peel, chocolate, cherries and cedar follow through to a medium body, firm tannins and crisp acidity with a crisp finish. Will age well but is already delicious now." James Suckling
"The Fontalloro 2021 is great. This is a classic Fontalloro, a wine that combines remarkable density with the wilder personality of Sangiovese - partly from the Colli Senesi. As such, it is a somewhat rustic wine, but it is a wine that will be a good dinner companion. Leather, incense, tobacco and scorched earth complement a wine that shows the darker, wilder side of the variety. With air, pretty floral notes unfold. I would cellar this wine for a few years." Vinous
"The nose offers classic, delicate aromas of cherries, wild strawberries, blood oranges, top soil and sage. On the palate, darker berries and even more cherries contrast with an earthy, bitter bite of citrus, while supple acidity flows past unifying tannins that are precise but with a chalky tenacity." Wine Enthusiast
"The Fontalloro 2021 reveals an elegant bouquet with a streamlined character that offers good intensity but is never excessive. The Sangiovese carries this lean style well, delivering plenty of nuances of wild cherries and wild berries. There are also gentle mineral tones and earthy orris roots. This bottle should develop well with time in the cellar." Wine Advocate

“Colonia” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2018
When you hear the story of the effort that went into the Colonia vineyard, you have to wonder if the fine people of Fèlsina are absolutely crazy. It took them two years to remove the imposing rock that had forced previous generations of the Poggiali family to virtually abandon this noble site. But it is thanks to the ambitious Giovanni Poggiali that this spectacular vineyard (Vigneto Colonia) became what it is today. It has reddish-brown soils, is rich in magnesium and iron, and is thus quite different from all other Fèlsina sites.
Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Colonia is a wine of enormous beauty and depth. Dark ruby in the glass, it smells expressively mineral and pure, with aromas of dark cherry and blackcurrant. Mineral and graphite aromas and the simply terrific focus on the Sangiovese grape make it an incomparable masterpiece. On the palate, it is extremely well-balanced and elegant with optimally integrated wood - it is immediately clear that another top wine of the house has been created that is more than a match for the Fontalloro. Fortunately for those who can taste it, there are only 3,000 bottles per vintage. SUPERIORE.DE
"Superb bouquet with notes of raspberries, rose hips, also sandalwood; juicy on the palate, with powdery tannin, perfectly integrated acidity, shows depth and style into the jam finish. Great wine that can age for some more time." Vinum
"Sparkling, rich ruby red. Very intense and clearly marked nose, full of wild raspberries and blackberries, behind it cardamom, exciting. Substantial and dense in attack and course, opens up in lots of pithy tannin, rich, dark berry fruit, in the final emphatically earthy notes, after red beet and cocoa." Falstaff
"Lustrous ruby with orange tinges. Gorgeous nose of sour cherry and blackberry with blood-orange hints and notes of new oak all perfectly tied together. Focused and a little vibrant on the palate, elegant and succulent with long, coating tannins. Transparent finish." Jancis Robinson
"Sweet berries and dried flowers on the nose with sage and lavender. Medium-to full-bodied with chewy tannins, yet these are polished and intense. Very structured and solid. Needs cellar time. Try after 2023." James Suckling
"I prefer this wine to Fèlsina's top-shelf Fontalloro. The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Colonia is irresistibly angular and tight, opening a profound view onto what makes Sangiovese so expressive and unique, especially when planted in the right territories. The bouquet is savory and almost sanguine with iron ore, rusty nail and baked clay. But there's plenty of fruit as well, in the form of wild berry and black cherry, that adds to the dimension and dynamic freshness of the mouthfeel. Give this wine time to soften in the bottle." Wine Advocate
"The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Colonia is fascinating to taste next to the Rancia, as the two parcels are adjacent. Rich and substantial in the glass, Colonia is textured and ample, qualities that become increasingly apparent over time. Rugged, rocky terrain seems to amplify power, explosive verticality and acidity." Vinous

“Colonia” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2019
When you hear the story of the effort that went into the Colonia vineyard, you have to wonder if the fine people of Fèlsina are absolutely crazy. Those who are able to taste it will be lucky, as there are only 3,000 bottles per vintage. SUPERIORE.DE
"Mid ruby with the beginning of orange tinges. Rusty nail, sweet raspberry and just a suggestion of oak. Supple, elegant raspberry fruit with a pinch of oak on the palate and bags of earthy-tasting, fine tannins. Very long and precise and gaining in depth on the finish." Jancis Robinson
"Floral aromas, on the palate the wine shows juicy red fruit with fresh zesty acidity. The tannins are balanced giving structure and there's an understated note of oak. Elegant." Decanter
"Intense nose of wild blueberries, dried cherries, mint, roasted espresso and toffee. It’s medium-to full-bodied with a firm tannin frame. Structured and polished. Dense, toasty and compact for now." James Suckling
"The 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Colonia is a bit marked by oak today, but behind that lies a wine of striking purity, depth and freshness. Dark red-fleshed fruit, crushed rocks, white pepper, spice and blood orange are some of the notes that meld together. There's a beautiful, layered wine waiting to emerge here." Vinous

“Colonia” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2020

"Bright, radiant ruby red colour. Open and warm on the nose, of ripe heart cherries, precious wood, fine earthy tones, plus graphite and bacon on the finish, very complex. Initially balanced on the palate with polished tannins and creamy fruit, comes across in many layers, long finish, on fine spices, still needs some time." Falstaff
"Charming bouquet with aromas of red forest fruits, violets and truffles; full-bodied with robust but well-integrated tannins, balanced with acidity, harmonious, long and multi-faceted. Convinces with its traditional, elegant style." Vinum
"Colonia is located almost 420 metres above sea level on the top of the Rancia hill, where the 2.6-hectare vineyard is surrounded by forest. Made from a selection of the healthiest grapes and aged in new French oak barriques, the 2020 is generous in its aromas of sun-kissed plums, petrichor, tobacco and espresso beans. Hints of cedar permeate the palate, where the fruit is altogether restrained. This wine is elegantly weighted with dusty earth, a gravelly crunch and citrus acidity. Grainy wood tannins on the finish." Decanter
"The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Colonia 2020 combines power, energy and structure. Dark red cherry fruit, blood orange, spices and sweet French oak in abundance. Colonia usually needs a few years to develop. I suspect that this will also be the case here. As always, the Colonia stands out in the Fèlsina range for its greater concentration and strong oak character." Vinous
"Cherries and orange blossom on the nose with some minerality. Medium body with fine tannins and floral undertones to hints of new wood and beautiful fruit. Needs time to develop." James Suckling
"This wine shows a very interesting character with botanical notes of dried rosemary and Mediterranean lavender. The 2020 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Colonia also shows plenty of dark fruit, clay, slate, pencil shavings, spice and a hint of Italian coffee. This medium-bodied wine is lively and fresh and finishes with melting tannins. This vintage is more approachable overall compared to recent vintages." Wine Advocate

“Rancia” Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2020 · MAGNUM in OWC
The Rancia will need additional bottle ageing." Fontalloro and Rancia are wine icons of Tuscany. The Gambero Rosso counts Fèlsina among the ten most successful Italian wineries. You can hardly achieve much more in the Italian wine scene.
It was 1966 when the major shipowner Domenico Poggiali from Ravenna purchased the abandoned estate in Castelnuovo Berardenga in the southernmost corner of the Chianti Classico region. At that time the Fattoria di Fèlsina did not even have 10 hectares of land. The few vines were only used to supply the farmsteads of the village with wine. However, the new owner recognized the quality of the hilly land, which was located from the foothills of the Chianti Classico area near Siena to the eastern flanks of the Ombrone valley not far from Montalcino in the Colli Senesi (Sienese Hills). Gradually he acquired about 500 hectares of land, of which today about 95 hectares are cultivated with wine. The rest are olive groves, agricultural land and woods.
At the beginning of the 1970s Poggiali also built underground cellars to withstand the high temperature fluctuations. Together with his son Giuseppe he built the winery from scratch. In times when Italian viticulture and especially Chianti was going through its most difficult phase, this was more than brave. The whole family helped of course, including the daughter Gloria, who had married the professor of literature Giovanni Mazzocolin. And because he earned so little as a professor, he too was to work in the winery. Actually in sales. But the art-loving professor was more concerned with the quality of the wines. He met Franco Bernabei, an oenologist from the Veneto region who had studied in Conegliano, and implemented his suggestions. Reduction of yields, new education systems, later harvesting, riper grapes, more modern cellar technology - and a selection of different Sangiovese clones.
While half of Italy relied on Cabernet & Co, Fèlsina produced pure Sangiovese wines, Fontalloro and Rancia had their premiere in 1983 and were to make the Fattoria di Fèlsina world-famous. It was also decided in 1983 to produce wines as close to nature as possible in the future. More important to Mazzocolin than the level of the harvest yields was a high biodiversity in the vineyards in order to protect the cultivated areas from pests to a large extent.
Today the grandson of the founder, Giovanni Poggiali, manages the now newly built cellar and vineyards, but always remains true to the successful style. SUPERIORE.DE
"Fèlsina belongs to the cult labels of Tuscany. The pure wines, on the other hand, which want to know little about modern, short-lived fashions, shine with elegance and personality."Gambero Rosso
