“Cremisi” Rosato Toscana IGT 2023
Il Colombaio di Santa Chiara is not only clearly ahead of the game with the famous Vernaccia di San Gimignano, the family winery also proves this with its Rosato Cremisi. A tantalising and captivating nose of dried orange peel, flowers, ginger and nectarine. Soft and supple on the palate, yet very dynamic and full of energy with citrus fruit, peppery herbs and green melon. The drinking flow is enormous, the salty tension combined with a subtle tangerine note provides plenty of fun, excitement and freshness. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2023 Rosato Cremisi is sinfully zesty and fresh with a burst of zesty lime and rosemary that segues into notes of candied green apples and Jordan almonds that are slightly more forgiving. It has a juicy, ripe fruit flavour that is underlined by a hint of tropical citrus and bracing acidity. A crackling, salty minerality gives the 2023 a remarkable freshness on the finish, allowing notes of sour melon and minty herbal notes to slowly fade away. It's almost impossible to stop with one sip." Vinous
"Here is a juicy and playful rosé with notes of frozen berries, herbs and melon. It’s medium-bodied with a fresh development on the palate. Good fruit character with a comforting finish." James Suckling

Even with his entry-level Vernaccia, Alessio Logi proves his unique class and also that the whites from San Gimignano can definitely play at the very top. Brilliant straw yellow in colour with sparkling reflections. Powerful aromas of citrus fruit, honeydew melon, jasmine, flint, crushed oyster shells and a hint of coriander and basil on the nose. Taut and precise on the palate, rich in extract and with great acidity. Brilliantly clear and with an interesting finish. SUPERIORE.DE

“Campo della Pieve” Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG 2022 (BIO)
The Campo della Pieve vineyard (approx. 380 metres above sea level) faces south-west and has thicker soils and more tufa. The most recent parcel, which was recently acquired, is the highest to date at 400 metres above sea level. The site is more susceptible to wind and has good water retention thanks to the heavier clay soils.
Bright, light golden yellow colour. Delicate nose of fresh yellow apple, some peach, lemon balm, flint in the background. Round and smooth on the palate with a lovely balance between acidity, freshness, citrus and tropical fruit, plus a subtle minerality. In keeping with the characteristics of the Vernaccia grape, the wine is not overly fruity, but displays an exciting spiciness that lends it personality and an additional arc of tension. SUPERIORE.DE
"A pleasant bouquet of apricots and dried roses; the attack is juicy, the acidity well integrated, salty-mineral nuances, pleasing with its timeless style." Vinum
"Bright, radiant straw yellow with light olive green reflections. Fresh and fragrant on the nose, juicy lemons, sage, minimal hints of white peach, elegant spicy notes on the finish. Very fresh on the palate with clear fruit, balanced, with subtle creamy fruit and a long, juicy finish. A great Vernaccia!" Falstaff
"A delicious, balanced and refreshing white wine with notes of stone fruit, yellow plums and a hint of lemon nougat. It has a medium body with fresh acidity and brightness in the centre. Lively and juicy." James Suckling
"Very distinctive, with aromas of herbs, citrus fruits and elderflower. The wine is salty, dynamic and has a great depth of flavour. It comes from a 15-year-old vineyard owned by the Logi family and planted on 1.5 hectares of yellow sand and limestone soils below the Pieve (parish) of San Donato. Spontaneous fermentation and long ageing on fine lees in concrete." Decanter

“L’Albereta” Vernaccia di San Gimignano Riserva DOCG 2021 (BIO)
L'Albereta is Alessio Logi's top wine from the single vineyard of the same name, which is also organically farmed. It owes its unmistakable identity to its rich, full-bodied texture, among other things. Matured for 12 months in oak barrels, it is rich in apricots, honey, cedar wood and roasted almonds. L'Albereta is a ripe and fleshy sun wine with a long, creamy finish flanked by smoke, spices and a delicate hint of cinnamon. It is already pleasant, but will become much richer and more complex over the next five to 12 years. SUPERIORE.DE
"Spicy-fruity bouquet, notes of peach and acacia blossom; the attack is mineral and compact, the acidity well integrated, notes of white pepper and plenty of fruit on the final." Vinum
"A fresh, juicy and lively white wine with aromas of lemons, dried herbs and mild spices on the nose. Medium-bodied with fresh acidity. Crisp green apple character on the palate with a lively citrus influence. Full-bodied and full of flavour." James Suckling

In the region around the imposing towers of the medieval town of San Gimignano, oenologist Alessio Logi has dedicated himself to what is probably Tuscany's most famous white wine. Vernaccia di San Gimignano is one of the oldest white wines in Italy, mentioned in records dating back to 1276 and in Dante's Divine Comedy. This white wine is therefore characterised by a centuries-old history of great storage potential and complex flavour aromas.
The Tuscan Vernaccia grape variety, which however should not be confused with the red Vernatsch from South Tyrol, captivates with a great expressive potential, through which it shows how the territory and its cultivation affect the taste. The young winemaker was inspired by his father Mario to extract the complex flavours of this white variety from his vineyards in an environmentally friendly way.
In a region as famous for red wine as Tuscany, Alessio has been passionately pressing his highly awarded Vernaccia white wines at his Il Colombaio di Santa Chiara winery since 2002. He is assisted in the cellar by his older brothers Giampiero and Stefano, while their eighty-something father Mario still sets the pace in the vineyards.
"My father taught me that the vines are a reflection of the soil and that you can improve the quality in the cellar, but not change it," Alessio tells us in conversation. That is why the clayey soils of his vineyards have been cultivated only according to organic guidelines from day one. Since working closely with the gifted oenologist Nicola Berti, the winemaker has also been working with much shorter maceration times, bringing out the fruity, spicy taste of the Vernaccia grape and its typically fine, tart almond note much more precisely.
What impresses us most about this family-run winery is the combination of the father's many years of experience and the contemporary awareness of the three sons to dedicate themselves to their Vernaccia production with respect for the environment - which is undoubtedly reflected in the great personality, structure and storability of their organic white wines.
From the refreshingly fruity Selvabianca, fermented in stainless steel, Il Colombaio di Santa Chiara's portfolio ranges to creamier, richer versions such as the powerful single-vineyard Campo alla Pieve or the 25-hectolitre barrel-aged Riserva Albereta. This diversity does credit to the history and reputation of this ancient white wine from San Gimignano and is a guarantee of uncompromising top quality. SUPERIORE.DE
