“Torricella” Chardonnay Toscana IGT 2022
According to Francesco Ricasoli, Torricella is "the white soul of Brolio" and comes from a vineyard that was originally planted with Malvasia Toscana vines and was located near a well-known Tuscan estate. This estate was called Torricella. Since 2003, this vineyard has been planted entirely with Chardonnay vines, producing a white wine with enormous ageing potential. Francesco comments: "With Torricella, a very great white wine was created from the very first vintage, which is able to give its best even after many years of ageing. It is surprising that even 50 or even 70-year-old vintages are still lively and fresh. Take a look at the analysis data - alcohol, total acidity, pH value and volatile acidity - which very often prove the longevity of this wine."
The complex bouquet is reminiscent of citrus fruits, white flowers and honey, with a wonderfully fresh and velvety balance on the palate. The full and fresh fruit is joined by a fine hint of vanilla and cinnamon, and this white wine also has a discreet minerality and subtle spiciness that make it unique. The finish is long and harmonious. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, radiant straw yellow with delicate golden reflections. Delicate flint, dried banana pieces and peach on the nose, reminiscent of salted lemon, slightly toasted. Hearty on the palate with great expression, well-integrated wood, clear, has a lovely freshness at the back, paired with light phenolics, very well done." Falstaff

“Rocca Guicciarda” Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2020
Francesco Ricasoli, the likeable and ambitious owner of Castello di Brolio, brings out the elegance and finesse as well as a marvellous depth of fruit in his wines. Rocca Guicciarda Riserva is a soft, silky wine. Dark ruby in colour, it has a rich, open bouquet of cherry and pomegranate, with a fine almond and tobacco note. A wine whose juiciness makes it a pleasure to drink early on, but whose flavour complexity increases enormously as it matures. SUPERIORE.DE

“Brolio Bettino” Chianti Classico DOCG 2021
This red wine in Riserva quality is dedicated to Bettino Ricasoli, who wrote down the grape variety mix of today's Chianti back in 1872. But he was much more than that: twice Prime Minister of the united Italy (1861 and 1866), founder of the daily newspaper "La Nazione", agricultural researcher and "father" of the first Chianti product specification. The creation of this wine interprets his tireless determination to create an independent Chianti style that is both traditional and contemporary to this day.
Chianti Classico Brolio Bettino captivates with a hauntingruby red colour. The intense and inviting aroma of dark fruit is underpinned with fine balsamic notes. The refined flavour is flawless and polished with well-proportioned acidity and perfectly integrated tannins, powerful and long. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Barone Ricasoli 2021 Chianti Classico Brolio Bettino offers medium concentration and a slightly darker garnet-red colour for a 100% Sangiovese. Instead of high-toned cherry or floral notes, this wine produces an even bouquet that takes a more horizontal or integrated approach overall. On the palate, the wine expands with dark fruit nuances that combine with roasted spices and slate-like mineral notes." Wine Advocate
"A serious, well-crafted and spicy Chianti Classico. The nose shows aromas of cherries, wild currants, dried herbs and peppercorns. It is medium to full-bodied with fine, firm tannins. It is very concentrated and balanced. The lively, spicy character gives it energy and length on the final." James Suckling
"There's a beautiful expression of fruit in this well-defined red, revealing cherry, pomegranate, earth and iron notes, with a hint of Tuscan scrub. Verges on rich yet is underscored by vibrant acidity and refined tannins. Shows terrific balance and length." Wine Spectator

“Brolio” Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2020
Everything is just right here: Brolio Riserva is classic in its composition, in its ageing, in its overall impression from the label to the last sip. Velvety, dense ruby colour, dense nose with rich fruit, especially blackberry, some elderberry and a beautiful herbal spice. Juicy and supple on the palate, the finish is polished with fine-grained tannins and a long-lasting final. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby red colour. Dark berries on the nose, fine, spicy notes with a blood orange aftertaste. Medium structure on the palate, polished, present tannins, fresh acidity, lingering finish." Falstaff
"This Chianti Classico is a savoury version with aromas of green olive, tomato leaf, iron and tobacco clustered around a core of macerated cherry fruit. Although lean and sinewy, it is also intense and focused, with a lingering aftertaste that feels the pull of both the savoury and fruity sides." Wine Spectator
"A firm and fresh Chianti Classico with a light to medium body, sour cherries, orange peel and hints of sandalwood. Crunchy finish." James Suckling
"The 2020 Chianti Classico Riserva Brolio is a dark, brooding wine. Black cherry, licorice, sage, tobacco, incense and leather fill out the layers as this strapping Riserva shows off its imposing personality. This is nicely done." Vinous
"In the bottle with the black label, this is a very pretty, relatable and well-priced wine from Tuscany. Made with 100% Sangiovese, the 2020 Chianti Classico Riserva Brolio offers blueberry, plum and sweet spice thanks to 18 months of tonneaux aging. I especially appreciate the wine's pronounced mineral signature that gives the wine a salty or savory side, which is perfect for food pairing." Wine Advocate
"Its versatile aroma is reminiscent of redcurrants, Mediterranean maquis, peony and pepper leaf. Sip with powerful tannins, tension and juiciness, finish with a fruity-floral return." Luca Gardini

Ricasoli's amber-coloured Vin Santo shows aromas of honey, caramel, roasted nuts, vanilla and brown sugar. The flavours are silky and seamlessly integrated and flow together in absolute harmony on the palate. A terrificVin Santo with breathtaking fruit intensity, precision and remarkable freshness despite its maturity! SUPERIORE.DE
"The Barone Ricasoli 2014 Vin Santo del Chianti Classico Castello di Brolio is especially sweet and soft in a vintage that is remembered for cool and rainy weather. You get lots of candied fruit, but you also get a fragrant whiff of rose oil or rosemary essence. I also notice a mineral side to this wine, with graphite or pencil shavings that square nicely against the fruit." Wine Advocate

“Castello di Brolio” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Gaiole DOCG 2021
Since summer 2023, Chianti Classico producers have been allowed to include the eleven additional geographical indications (UGA = unità geografiche aggiuntive) introduced in 2021 on the labels of the top Gran Selezione category. For Chianti Classico winegrowers, it is a logical step to produce wines that reflect the area in which they were produced as authentically as possible. And customers can thus deepen their knowledge of the relationship between the wines and their region of origin - a real added value.
The grapes for Ricasoli's classic come from a south-facing plot at an ideal altitude of 250 to 450 metres above sea level. Castello di Brolio Gran Selezione is a wonderful wine with great richness and depth. It has an intense bouquet of small red berries, violets and spices. The flavour reveals precision, structure and freshness. The tannin and acidity are well-balanced and promise a long life and an interesting ageing period. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, medium ruby red colour. Opens elegantly on the nose with aromas of redcurrants, orange peel and juicy cherries. Cool fruit on the palate, very elegant, well-integrated tannins, exciting and persistent final." Falstaff
"The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Brolio 2021 smells of red Sangiovese fruit, white pepper, cedar wood, tobacco, incense and dried herbs. In the glass, the Riserva is bright and complex, with great energy, another good offering from the Ricasoli family. In fact, the 2021 is one of the best editions I have ever tasted." Vinous
"The Barone Ricasoli 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Gaiole Castello di Brolio, now labelled with the Gaiole sub-region on the back label, displays a beautiful bouquet densely packed with carefully ripened fruit. The aromas are characterised by hints of candied cherries intermingled with orris root, dried mint and spice. This generous Sangiovese finishes with lingering freshness." Wine Advocate
"A core of ripe cherries, plums and pomegranates permeates this lively, complex red wine. A balanced version with a firm grip on the finish that complements its fresh acidity. The long aftertaste recalls the fruit and mineral and Mediterranean shrub notes." Wine Spectator
"Ricasoli's flagship wine is a blend of grapes from vineyards in Gaiole on the most important soil types of the Chianti Classico: Macigno (sandstone), Galestro and Alberese. The wine shows delicate notes of dark cherries and spiced plums, which are followed in the mouth by a wonderfully vertical structure in which the juicy fruit floats and the savoury edges vibrate with energy. The fruit has a wonderful juiciness, and the tannins are supportive but play a subordinate role. Absolute class." Decanter
"Intense and balanced, perfect standard bearer of the winery. Intense and complex nose, red mulberry, hints of cloves, a touch of laurel and rhubarb. The sip has spicy tannins, a hint of floral nuances and a finish with an officinal return." Luca Gardini
"This wine is so elegant, with a finesse and sensitivity that are so fascinating. It is delicate and almost weightless, with a beautiful and energetic balance of fruit and acidity. It is medium-bodied and extremely long. Medium chewiness. It goes on and on. Dark cherries, bark and lots of flowers on the finish." James Suckling

“Sanbarnaba” Bianco Toscana IGT 2020
Here comes the debut vintage of a great white wine from a classic red wine region. In a small edition of less than 6,000 bottles, an elegant and at the same time very independent Trebbiano was created, which rightly bears the label based on the famous "Castello di Brolio" Chianti Classico Gran Selezione. The white Trebbiano grape variety has a tradition of over a hundred years at Brolio, and the grapes for this white cru come from a small 1.18-hectare plot in the company's own Tarci vineyard. According to tradition, a monument was erected here to San Barnaba, the protector of the vineyards from hail.
Its production is as special as the wine itself: it was matured in Tuscan cocciopesto amphorae, with the skins macerating for around three months. The wine was then aged for a year, 40% in amphorae, 30% in stainless steel tanks and 30% in second and third passage tonneaux.
Sanbarnaba surprises with its elegance and intensity. It has a golden yellow colour with amber reflections. On the nose, it opens with floral and fruity notes, followed by honey flavours, spice and herbs. It is soft and very harmonious on the palate. Its acidity and freshness with a fine mineral note accompany the extremely flavoursome experience right through to the long finish. Very exceptional! SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling, light golden yellow colour. Notes of jasmine blossom, pear and some baked apple on the nose. Lots of taut acidity on the palate, gives tension and juiciness, salty, slightly phenolic notes on the final." Falstaff
"An attractive wine with notes of bruised apples, pear peel, savoury herbs, young walnuts and ripe cheese. Full and waxy, structured and rather fluid, but also interesting. Spicy and savoury with a delicate phenolic impression on the finish. 100% Trebbiano from 1.18 hectares of vineyard." James Suckling
"A slightly honeyed, appley aroma with floral lift leads to a textured lanolin palate. It has good underlying acidity along with a lovely line of salinity which balances its waxy weight, finishing with a refreshing twist of lime. 2020 is the first vintage of Sanbarnaba." Decanter
"This is a wine that promises modest potential for cellaring, and thanks to its natural structure it could be paired with mature cheeses or even a plate of cacio e pep. The Barone Ricasoli 2020 Castello di Brolio Sanbarnaba is aged in a combination of amphorae, stainless steel and neutral oak. Only 5,600 bottles were produced. It opens with a medium golden colour and offers nutty aromas with mango, apricot and candied orange. It finishes on a glycerine-rich note. It should be interesting to taste this bottle again in five years' time." Wine Advocate

“Casalferro” Rosso Toscana IGT 2018
A study commissioned by Francesco Ricasoli has shown that there are 19 different types of soil on Brolio. This made it possible to precisely define the sites that are particularly good for Merlot, from which wines with a unique structure and unmistakable flavour emerge. With the 2018 vintage, Francesco Ricasoli is now presenting the "new" Casalferro, whose grapes come from the three different vineyards Vigna Casalferro, Vigna Pecchierino and Vigna Sodacci. The production volume has been drastically reduced, but the result is impressive!
A Tuscan Merlot as it is written in the book. On the nose, complex aromas of dark red fruit, delicate cedar wood, leather, very spicy. Initially taut and dense on the palate, it opens up as it progresses and expands with impressive elegance. The interplay between bouquet and complexity on the palate is perfectly balanced and its impressive size is already unmistakable. This Merlot will have a great future. SUPERIORE.DE
"Pure Merlot from (for the first time) three selected vineyards that are particularly suitable for the variety and a hit right from the start: complex nose with intriguing notes of blackcurrant, sandalwood, tobacco and pepper; harmony on the palate, which increases in fullness and density with aeration and yet retains its elegance." Vinum
"Noble, bright ruby red colour. The nose is barrel-spicy and reminiscent of precious woods, plum, blackberry, peppery-malty tones in the finish. Very fresh on the palate with crisp acidity, without missing its body, stretches out nicely, polished and with lots of juice, keeps coming back, put it down, will be a long-distance runner." Falstaff
"The 2018 Casalferro, Brolio's (Merlot) is a powerful, brooding wine, packed with dark fruit, espresso, dried herbs, menthol, liquorice, incense and cloves. This juicy, intensely flavoured red wine delivers a lot of impact, that much is clear." Vinous
"The secret of Casalferro is the fruit, which comes from different locations, including one that is 500 metres above sea level. It delivers vertical power and intensity with dark fruits, spices and dried mint. This wine is already drinking beautifully." Wine Advocate
"A very precise and beautiful Merlot with violets, spices and blackcurrants. Extremely perfumed. Medium-bodied with ultra-fine tannins and a long, polished finish that shows finesse and complexity. Delicious to drink now, but will get even better with age." James Suckling
"Beautiful intense ruby color, on the nose intense aromas of blueberry, currant and balsamic herbs. The taste is broad, elegant and of spectacular cleaning. Silky tannins, excellent drinkability." Luca Gardini

"A rich, dark expression of Merlot, this red walks the fine line between austerity and generosity, with the latter gaining prominence over the course of the fine finish. Dense, with the tight texture working in tandem with black cherry, blackberry, iron and spice flavours." Wine Spectator
"The Barone Ricasoli 2019 Casalferro showcases its potential in a classic vintage. The DNA of the wine, which is made exclusively from Merlot, is characterised by the grape variety, but the terroir also plays a major role in this presentation. You know you're drinking a wine from Tuscany thanks to a delicate bundle of flavours that includes wild cherry, violet fruit, violets and spices. This wine gives an Italian personality to a French grape variety." Wine Advocate
"The 2019 Casalferro is magnificent. Ripe dark cherry and plum fruit, liquorice, spice, new leather, menthol and mocha are combined in a generous, lush Merlot that offers much of the vibrancy of a Chianti Classico." Vinous
"Blueberry, plum and red and black berry scents mingle with wildflowers, spices and a hint of roasted coffee beans. Stony and sapid in the mouth, it's all about elegance with beautiful cool blue fruits accompanied by a touch of creaminess on the mid-palate, then a long, super-fresh and poised finish." Decanter
"Super flavours of fresh violets, black olives, crushed raspberries and blackberries. Also a hint of dried flowers. Full-bodied but compact and polished, with superbly crafted tannins that compress the palate and give it a velvety texture. Taut and concentrated. The most precise and refined Casalferro ever. It needs at least three or four years to show what it's made of, but it has great potential. Best from 2026 onwards." James Suckling
"Produced for the first time not only with the best grapes from the vineyard of the same name, but also with contributions from the Pecchierino and Sodacci vineyards, this is a pure Merlot of stature with intense aromas of blueberries, currants and balsamic herbs on the nose. The flavour is elegant and spectacularly clean. Salty and spicy tannins, excellent drinkability." Luca Gardini

A wine whose juiciness makes it a pleasure to drink early on, but whose flavour complexity increases enormously as it matures. SUPERIORE.DE
"Lightly cooked plums and sliced oranges with some caramel on the nose. Medium body, fine and silky tannins and a delicious finish. Polished and ready." James Suckling

“CeniPrimo” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2020
As a result of extensive soil research, Francesco Ricasoli was able to identify three micro-vineyards, which will be vinified separately from the 2015 vintage onwards. The range of Chianti Classico Gran Selezione now includes, in addition to the famous Castello di Brolio, three cru sites (Colledilà, Roncicone and Ceniprimo), all of which are 100% planted with Sangiovese. They differ in structure and taste in close correspondence with their terroir and impressively demonstrate the complexity of the Chanti Classico region.
CeniPrimo is a single-varietal Sangiovese from soils shaped by a former river course. It is a 6.4 hectare site planted in 1998 with southwest exposure. This site is in a valley on the Arbia River, and the soils are very complex at this point with alluvium and clay that is low in organic matter and lower in limestone. From our tasting, it seems to be the most nuanced and diverse of the three single vineyard Gran Selezione.
Intense, fresh and bright bouquet of violets and wild spicy notes. In the drink, an elegant acidity and fine mineral slate traces. Cherry, blackberry, plum, white pepper and a little rosemary lead the perfectly structured drop into a never-ending and multi-layered finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"A complex, concentrated red wine with seductive aromas of cherries, blackcurrants, violets, minerals and spices. Dry and powerful, with a firm, mineral finish. It shows good balance and a long-lasting aftertaste, combining the fruity, mineral and spicy elements." Wine Spectator
"Straightforward fruit and floral aromas, then subtle spice too; the tannins powdery, well underpinned by the acidity, the finish on notes of sun-ripened berries. Pleases with its verve." Vinum
"The CeniPrimo, the lowest of Ricasoli's three crus, comes from a site 300 metres above sea level in the Arbia Valley on river soils. As a result, it is darker and earthier compared to the other two crus, grippier and also with an amazing acidity. There is a hint of creaminess in the background, with notes of earth, pepper and wood. It's very tasty and vertical, with balsamic freshness and beautiful purity, but definitely needs more time to show its best side." Decanter
"The Barone Ricasoli 2020 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Brolio CeniPrimo opens with a medium-dark, saturated appearance and a slightly more concentrated feel, with aromas of cherry liqueur, blackberries, spices and sweet earth. Thanks to the lower-lying vineyards and silty riverbed soils, this wine is a little fruitier and richer in texture. However, this wine also offers a touch of lively freshness on the finish, and that makes a big difference in a warm vintage like this. It remains very balanced throughout." Wine Advocate
"Aromas of firm-to-the-bite cherries with citrus peel. Flowers, like red roses, also come through clearly. Medium to full body, with open-grained tannins that cling like cashmere. Powerful, fresh and lively. Give this wine three to five years to develop." James Suckling

“Roncicone” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2020
As a result of extensive soil research, Francesco Ricasoli was able to identify three microlocations, which will be vinified separately from the 2015 vintage onwards.
Cru Roncicone comes from soils with maritime deposits. It is a 10.1 hectare plot planted between 1998 and 2000 at a density of 6,000 plants per hectare. The soils are rich in marine fossils with sand at the top and thicker clay under the topsoil. Our impression of this wine is that it is the most immediately and softly structured.
Deep dark, fruity-smoky bouquet. On the palate then dark, violet fruits, paired with notes of forest floor, tobacco and a nice spiciness. The volume is full and deep, the tannins very accessible even at a young age and the finish is flanked by a well-structured acidity framework, which will also ensure a very good ageing potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Roncicone, first released in the 2015 vintage, comes from a vineyard with richer soils with marine sediments and large pebbles. It is the most floral and fragrant of Ricasoli's three crus, intense and fleshy, with good spice of black and red cherries, spices and balsamic, finishing with sweet, floral red fruits - a very nice style." Decanter
"The spicy nose is reminiscent of a soothing café, with notes of balsamic vinegar and herbs, and a gentle fruitiness that lingers over the smell of the beans. The velvety texture on the palate is balanced by a sharp acidity and a peppery kick on the finish." Wine Enthusiast
"Offers aromas and flavours of cherry, blackcurrant and plum, underlined by iron and mineral notes. Accents of tobacco and wild herbs emerge on the long, delicious finish. Excellent balance." Wine Spectator
"Ripe and rich Roncicone with plums, currants and jam accompanied by fresh flowers and walnut undertones. Full-bodied, a little chewy and structured, but crisp with fine tannins. Long lasting finish. Needs at least two or three years to develop." James Suckling
"Exquisite bouquet of stone fruit and sandalwood, spiced up by fine spice; harmonious tannin-acid framework, pressure on the finish and yet full of elegance." Vinum
"This is the wine that blew me away last year (when I tasted the excellent 2019 vintage) and convinced me of the innovative work Barone Ricasoli is currently doing. Today, tasting the 2020 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Brolio Roncicone, I am reminded of the quality fruit that comes from this particular 10-acre site with marine fossils in the sandy topsoil. Carefully aged in oak, this Sangiovese shows brilliant clarity and focus, with aromas of roses, dried cherries, campfire ash and delicate mineral notes. This wine paints a beautiful portrait of this grape variety." Wine Advocate

“Colledilà" Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2020
As a result of extensive soil research, Francesco Ricasoli was able to identify three microlocations, which will be vinified separately from the 2015 vintage onwards.
The grapes of Colledilà come from the soils of Monte Morello. The 7.6 hectare single-vineyard plot was planted in 2002 on very rocky soils rich in calcium, clay and organic matter. These characteristics give this wine its sharpness and concentration, promising long ageing in the cellar.
Ripe, dark cherry fruit and blackberry aromas, followed by tar, liquorice and potting soil. On the palate, a fine earthiness, cherry and plum, plus finely knit and slightly sweet tannins. The dense fruit and pleasant acid wire the Sangiovese provide the necessary freshness. Masterfully composed! SUPERIORE.DE
"Like a laser beam in profile, this red wine evokes aromas and flavours of cherries, currants, minerals, wild herbs and sweet spices. The lingering, incisive finish leaves a hint of fine tannins. Needs time." Wine Spectator
"Juicy, ripe and bright, it shows a delicious freshness of blackcurrant fruit with classic chalky verticality and length, but it needs more time to reveal all its complexity." Decanter
"Of these 2020 releases, I think the Barone Ricasoli 2020 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Colledilà is the most sensitive to the warm growing season. You sense more fruit ripeness in this wine with savoury spices, leather and roasted espresso beans. There is plenty of plum and purple fruit framed by gravel and campfire ash. Indeed, this 2020 expression offers a nice, balanced freshness in terms of mouthfeel." Wine Advocate
"Intense perfume of stone fruit, dark chocolate and tobacco; tightly woven, the tannins polished and in perfect unison with the well-integrated acidity, the finish on notes of black cherries, clear and spot-on. Also very successful in this vintage." Vinum
"Very perfumed with aromas of hibiscus flowers, citrus and fresh cherries leading to a medium body with layers of fruit and very fine tannins that go on and on. Fully integrated. A joy to taste and drink, but it will develop beautifully in bottle. Pure harmony." James Suckling
"Elegantly bright ruby red with a delicate garnet rim. Expressive nose, of rose hips, blood oranges, fresh cherries, very inviting and fragrant, red peach, with delicate floral components. Very juicy entry on the palate, polished and clear, with great brought out red fruit, plus bright spice, long and very elegant." Falstaff

“CeniPrimo” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Gaiole DOCG 2021
Since summer 2023, Chianti Classico producers have been allowed to include the eleven additional geographical indications (UGA = unità geografiche aggiuntive) introduced in 2021 on the labels of the top Gran Selezione category. For Chianti Classico winegrowers, it is a logical step to produce wines that reflect the area in which they were produced as authentically as possible. And customers can thus deepen their knowledge of the relationship between the wines and their region of origin - a real added value.

CeniPrimo is a single-varietal Sangiovese from soils characterised by the course of a former river. It is a 6.4 hectare plot that was planted in 1998 with a south-west exposure. This site is located in a valley along the Arbia river, and the soils here are very complex with alluvial soil and clay that contains little organic matter and less limestone.
Intense, fresh and bright bouquet of violets and wild spicy notes. Elegant acidity and fine mineral slate traces on the palate. Cherry, blackberry, plum, white pepper and a touch of rosemary lead this perfectly structured wine into a never-ending, multi-layered finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Very multi-faceted flavour with crisp raspberries, small cherries, wild berries and earthy nuances. Cool and firmly defined, grippy style, mineral nuances, savoury final. Needs time." Weinwisser
"Intense, sparkling ruby colour, slightly brightening garnet rim. Very clear nose, aromas of fresh plums and blackberries, some blood orange in the background. Polished on the palate, opens up with lots of fine tannins, juicy, spans a wide range." Falstaff
"The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione CeniPrimo 2021 is another powerful wine from Ricasoli. Here it is the breadth and textural presence of the wine that stand out the most. Dark red fruits, dried flowers, spices and earthy notes abound. I would be tempted to give this wine a year or two in the bottle." Vinous
"The Barone Ricasoli 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Gaiole CeniPrimo shows a soft fruit structure with lots of sweet cherry and raspberry in the foreground. The grapes for this wine come from a vineyard planted in a muddy riverbed. As a result of these warm growing conditions, the CeniPrimo tends to have a fleshier fruit." Wine Advocate
"Medicinal herbs and vanilla weave through the dark red cherry. The ripe, dense, fleshy fruit is coated with plenty of dusty tannins, while zesty, citrusy acidity adds a refreshing, countering lift. It leaves resonant hints of leather, chinotto and earthy forest roots and deserves to cellar." Decanter
"This wine has a lot of energy with a crisp and lively flavour. Undertones of sour cherry, orange peel and cedar. It is medium-bodied, supple and racy. Very lively. Drinkable now, but better in a year or two when it comes together." James Suckling
"A ray of acidity runs through this sparkling red wine, giving it energy and driving its flavours of cherries, strawberries, minerals and spices. Ripe and supple at the same time, it firms up on the long and lively finish. All the elements together add up to great potential." Wine Spectator

"Mineral with smoky cherry fruit; super juicy style with fine red fruit fullness, vertical with elegant texture, polished tannins, juicy final." Weinwisser
"Noble, shiny ruby red colour. Dark and beguiling on the nose, notes of cold smoke, rosehip, cordial cherry and marzipan, comes in many layers. Ripe, juicy fruit on the palate on a finely woven tannin structure and animating acidity, great finesse and harmony through to the very persistent finish." Falstaff
"The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Colledilà 2021 is bright, focussed and very expressive. Reddish fruit, blood orange, mint, spices and rose petals race across the palate. This lively, nuanced Gaiole Gran Selezione has so much to offer. Once again, the Colledilà is the most charming of the Gran Seleziones in this range." Vinous
"Evocative scents of jasmine, fennel and thyme flowers unfold against a dusty, stony background. The palate is concentrated, with dark cherries and blackberries surrounded by muscular tannins with a very chalky texture. A powerful acidity unfolds on the finish. Still dense, with some wood notes to digest." Decanter
"Fresh and crisp with orange peel, cherries, raspberries and a hint of raw meat. It is medium-bodied with medium-round tannins and a juicy finish. Polished and creamy. Slightly chewy and crisp on the finish." James Suckling
"The Barone Ricasoli 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Gaiole Colledilà opens with dark fruit but, perhaps more importantly, with a slate-like mineral note that adds focus. This mineral note appears in all of these beautiful Gran Selezione wines from winemaker Francesco Ricasoli, but in the case of this bottle it lends a dark or slightly brooding personality. The finish is absolutely savoury and salty." Wine Advocate
"Packed with cherry, raspberry and pomegranate flavours, this red is also juicy and almost racy in profile, with a deep vein of mineral and peppery spice notes that intensify on the long finish. It shows excellent balance and grace, and the best is yet to come." Wine Spectator
"A monumental "Grosse Auslese", from pure Sangiovese, from chalky-marly soils, with a strong presence of Alberese. The aroma is very rich, with notes of wild plums and eucalyptus, barley candy and laurel flavours. Spicy on the palate, with fruity notes and balsamic hints." Luca Gardini

"At first a little unapproachable, then clear Sangiovese fruit with crisp cherries, sour cherries and earthy-tobacco nuances. Taut and vertically orientated, energetic, tightly woven, powerful style." Weinwisser
"Brilliant, rich ruby colour with a fine garnet rim. Finely characterised nose with notes of fresh dark cherries, some raspberry and blood orange, plus rich spicy components. Good tension on the palate, shows lots of juicy fruit, opens up with fine tannins, balanced and with a long finish." Falstaff
"The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Roncicone 2021 is a powerful, intensely mineralised wine. In this tasting, the Roncicone is not particularly open-minded, but one of the most restrained wines in the range. The harvestwill find a Gran Selezione with a lot of minerality but little energy." Vinous
"Gentle and pretty in its aromas, it is decidedly red-fruited. It offers redcurrants and raspberries with a hint of porcini mushrooms and espresso. It feels medium-bodied but fills the mouth, its long, fine, sandy tannins providing an elegant flow. Mineral with tangy acidity, it shows the juicy character of Sangiovese." Decanter
"This Chianti Classico has a fresh and tangy character with notes of oranges, cherries and sandalwood. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and a creamy finish. The tannins are very light. It is drinkable now, but it will be even better in a year or two." James Suckling
"This red wine is a little shy today, revealing a core of ripe cherry, strawberry, rose and iron flavours supported by a lively acidity. Its tannins are refined and well integrated, while the finish is very long, savoury and intense." Wine Spectator
"The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Gaiole Roncicone 2021 offers energy and a great sense of concentration thanks to the elegant mineral tones of crushed shells and chalk that frame a core of elegant berry fruit. In fact, marine fossils are often discovered in this 10-hectare vineyard. I love the precision and straightforwardness of the silky and lingering finish. The personality is refined and subtle." Ricasoli's classic is now made from 100% Sangiovese. The grapes come from a south-facing plot at an ideal altitude of 250 to 450 metres above sea level. The flavour reveals precision, structure and freshness. The tannin and acidity are well-balanced and promise a long life and an interesting ageing period. SUPERIORE.DE
"A great Castello di Brolio. Red and blue berries, forest air, pine needles and brook mint, complex. Floats on the tongue with silky, polished tannins, again cherries and blackberries, finely structured and highly elegant, animating freshness and juicy length." Weinwisser
"Bright, medium ruby red with garnet-red reflections. Intense aroma of juicy cherries, orange peel, tobacco leaves and light spices of cinnamon and vanilla. Very elegant on the palate, with beautiful fruit flavours and well-integrated tannins as well as an exciting and persistent final." Falstaff
"Deep carmine red colour. Quite a complex nose. Racy with flavours of tea leaves and good freshness. Good bite. A real, refined Chianti Classico." Jancis Robinson
"This lively red wine shows telltale Sangiovese notes of iron, red chalk and tobacco that fade into a core of cherry and raspberry. It becomes smoother and more focused on the finish, where the fruit, minerals and savoury elements come together." Wine Spectator
"Autumnal aromas of baking spices and the taste of a freshly brewed cup of coffee are balanced by a sweet cherry vanilla biscuit and a peppery note. The cherry brightens the palate, with spice sustained by herbal and stony undertones. Bright acidity plays around firm tannins." Wine Enthusiast
"The Barone Ricasoli 2020 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Brolio is one of the winery's most important and successful bottles. It is full-bodied and rich with warm, vintage flavours of blackberries, juicy cherries, spices and soft earth. It is aged for 22 months in tonneaux, of which only 30% is new oak, but this is more than enough to give this full-bodied Sangiovese spicy tones, soft tannins and a rich structure." Wine Advocate
"Complex bouquet of forest fruits, black pepper and tobacco; has flesh, fullness, skilfully balanced tannins and acidity, long finish. Convinces with its charismatic style." Vinum
"Castello di Brolio is the flagship of the winery and combines Sangiovese from higher-lying vineyards near the castle, planted on the three main soil types found here: Macigno (sandstone), Galestro and Alberese. This 2020 has a balsamic bouquet that is accompanied in the mouth by a rich concentration of flavoursome, tangy red and black fruits and wonderfully silky tannins. Structured enough to age well, but soft and approachable enough to enjoy immediately, it's a great all-rounder." Decanter
"Bright and floral on the nose, with orange blossom and vibrant sliced cherry character. Medium-bodied, with ultra-fine tannins that are supple and gentle. Beautiful aftertaste of cooked peach pie and cherry. Delicious now, but even better in 2028." James Suckling
"Pure Sangiovese from three vineyards around the castle, an expression of three different soils. Black cherry on the nose, with notes of eucalyptus and cinnamon. Spicy tannins on the palate, dense, persistent with a balsamic finish." Luca Gardini

In fact, the 2021 is one of the best editions I've ever tasted." Vinous

“Roncicone” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2018 · MAGNUM in OWC
As a result of extensive soil research, Francesco Ricasoli was able to identify three microlocations, which will be vinified separately from the 2015 vintage onwards.
"Comes from river alluvial soils at 320 metres above sea level: multi-faceted bouquet with subtle mineral notes, lots of polish and yet also character; compact texture, tannins and acidity well balanced, elegant and youthful finish. Can mature." Vinum
"Shiny ruby-garnet. Finely marked nose with notes of raspberry, some strawberry, underlaid with fine spices in the background, multilayered. Intense fresh fruit on the palate, unfolds with polished tannin in many layers, long and deep, slightly smoky notes on the final." Falstaff
"Linear and compact, offering a core of cherry and strawberry singed by iron, tobacco and oak spice flavors. There's intensity to this, combined with a firm structure and balanced in a tightly wound package, showing excellent length." Wine Spectator
"The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Roncicone emerges from a parcel on marine soils that naturally yield a bright, taut expression of Sangiovese. Sweet red berry fruit, flowers, chalk, mint and blood orange bring out the more lifted, red-toned expression of Sangiovese. The Roncicone is another very pretty wine in this range from Brolio." Vinous
"Aromas of minerals, crushed stones and cherries. Pine needles, too. Floral. Full-to medium-bodied with a tight, linear palate and super fine tannins. Extremely deep. Fresh. Light saltiness. Give this three or four years to open." James Suckling

The family estate Castello di Brolio sits peacefully on a picturesque hill in the Chianti mountains - surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and cypresses. It was at this magnificent location in the municipality of Gaiole that Baron Bettino Ricasoli first determined in the late 1860s which grape varieties a Chianti could contain.
The most famous wine of the house - Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Brolio - is made from 100% Sangiovese and aged for 23 months in barriques. Other premium wines include the single-varietal Merlot Casalferro and the three single-varietal Sangiovese Colledilà, CeniPrimo and Roncicone, vinified as single-varietals, all of which are in the top Chianti Classico Gran Selezione category. They are the result of a development that began back in 1993: At that time, Francesco Barone Ricasoli took over the winery. He immediately launched an ambitious quality offensive: New vineyards were planted, and a scientifically underpinned programme for selecting and propagating the best old Sangiovese clones was set in motion. The youngest scion of the famous noble family also analysed the individual sites - a total of around 240 hectares of vineyards on 1,200 hectares of land - in order to better understand the characteristics of the vineyards and the influence of the soil on the wine and to be able to avoid mistakes on the way from the grape to the bottle. Oenologist oenologist Carlo Ferrini, who knows Chianti and its wines inside out, has also played a big part in Ricasoli 1141's qualitative soaring. SUPERIORE.DE
"The history of the Ricasoli estate is inseparably linked with that of Chianti Classico. Even today, the winery is considered a model winery in the growing region." Gambero Rosso
"Exciting work is underway at Barone Ricasoli to study and map the soil conditions on the Brolio property. To commemorate these efforts, the winery now has three single-vineyard Chianti Classico Gran Selezione wines, two of which debuted in 2019. Francesco Ricasoli and his team have identified 19 different soil types in their planning. The five main soils are Macigno del Chianti (well-draining sand and rocks called arenarie), Scaglia Toscana (or shale-based Galestro), Monte Morello (also known as Alberese limestone with calcareous claystone), Marine Depots (with Pliocene marine sediments and sandy deposits) and finally Ancient Fluvial Terrace (or poorly structured silty deposits with clay). The three new wines represent the last three soil types in this list.
The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Colledilà represents the Monte Morello soils. The 7.6 hectare single vineyard plot was planted in 2002 on very rocky soils rich in calcium, clay and organic matter. These characteristics give this wine its sharpness and concentration, promising long ageing in the cellar.
The second wine is the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Roncicone, which represents the soils of the marine deposits. It is a 10.1 hectare plot planted between 1998 and 2000 at a density of 6,000 plants per hectare. The soils are rich in marine fossils with sand at the top and thicker clay under the topsoil. My impression of this wine is that it is the most immediate and softly structured.
The third wine, Chianti Classico Gran Selezione CeniPrimo, represents the old river terrace. CeniPrimo is a 6.4 hectare site planted in 1998 with southwest exposure. This site is located in a valley on the Arbia River, and the soils are very complex at this site with alluvium and clay that is low in organic matter and lower in limestone. To my palate, this expression was the most nuanced and diverse. I would expect this wine to evolve slowly and go through many different incarnations over the years."
