Rosso Toscana IGT 2022
Deep ruby red colour. Fresh aromas of sour cherry, violet, lavender and some cedar wood. The first impression is bright and fresh, followed by a certain creaminess with ripe red cherry and plum flavours, complemented by a subtle undergrowth note. Juicy, clean and persistent on the final. Vermentino Toscana IGT 2023
Pale straw yellow with greenish reflections. A hint of grapefruit, white flowers and freshly cut grass on the nose - the addition of a few per cent Sauvignon Bianco gives it aromatic intensity and a certain depth. A lively white wine that finishes cheerfully with a light citrus note, making it a perfect terrace wine - solo or with light antipasti served cold. SUPERIORE.DE

“Il Grigio” Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2021
Brilliant ruby red colour. Lively nose of small, primary fruity red berries, subtle use of wood and impressive race and complexity for the price. Precise and taut on the palate, showing its origins boldly and decisively. Then a harmoniously balanced mix of tobacco, leather, cedar and, of course, cherry and plum. The finely balanced tannins carry this powerful and impressive Riserva into a long final. Impressive! SUPERIORE.DE
"This wine is absolutely delicious. An arpeggio of sweet, unashamedly ripe, red berry and violet-coloured fruit that floats through the glass. Unbridled freshness. The fruit is the flutist of the vineyard. Unabashed in terms of fruit, but at the same time not obtrusively "fruity". It is complex. The tannins are silky, but have a finely powdered chalky grip. There's spice, a little liquorice bark and a hint of foliage - that kind of green-purple, velvety bloom of wild violets. And the purity of the fruit fills every molecule of the long finish. Bravo!" Jancis Robinson
"This is bright and focused, with aromas of cherries, dried oranges and hints of hibiscus and mild spices. Medium-bodied, crunchy and fresh on the palate, with very fine tannins. Polished, with mineral notes of crushed stones and citrusy nuances at the end. Shows freshness and balance." James Suckling
"Offers cherry and plum fruit, framed by flavours of earth, minerals and wild herbs. This red wine oscillates between elegance and power and is wonderfully balanced. Dusty tannins support the fruit on the long finish." Wine Spectator
"The Chianti Classico Riserva Il Grigio da San Felice 2021 is a dark, dense and rather sombre wine. Black cherry, leather, tobacco, incense and dried herbs reinforce this first impression. The 2021 is a Riserva with substance and power and has a lot to offer. It is a particularly beautiful edition of Il Grigio." Vinous

“Pugnitello” Rosso Toscana IGT 2019
Deep, dark ruby violet colour. Pugnitello impresses with intense notes of elderberry and blackberry, interspersed with subtle smoky notes, slightly peppery in the background. Juicy attack with a well-structured body, dense, gripping tannins, long and persistent with a salty component. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2019 Pugnitello is a fascinating wine. It offers plenty of dark cherry fruit, plum, leather, coffee, liquorice and dried herbs and shows remarkable depth and concentration. There is plenty of tannin, but this is a Pugnitello after all." Vinous
"A rich and dense red, showing some toasted sesame from the oak with red chilli chocolate, dark olives, blackberries and hints of purple flowers and spice. Full and compact, with tonnes of fine-grained tannins rounding out the fruit. An outstanding Pugnitello. Drinkable now, but better after 2023." James Suckling
"This is a beautifully made wine and a special expression of one of Tuscany's great under-the-radar grapes. The 2019 Pugnitello prides itself on its dark concentration, soft ripeness, blackberry jam, earth, black truffle and crushed rose as a single varietal wine. The full-bodied mouthfeel is rich in extract but also soft, giving this wine a medium-term drinking window. In fact, it's preferable to drink this bottle until the 10-year mark, when the velvety primary fruit is at its best." Wine Advocate
"The nose starts intensely sanguine and almost metallic, like meat fresh off the grill, then lightens into sweet aromas of vanilla and gentler savory notes of earth and herbs. On the palate, a current of astringent fruit ties together the herbaceousness with that metallic quality, while a peppery heat blazes around unrelenting tannins." Wine Enthusiast

“Il Grigio” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2020
Wow! Dark, bright ruby with garnet colour. Pure power of aromas, dense and complex of black cherries, smoked ham, savoury herbs, tobacco, liquorice and many other nuances. Equally fascinating on the palate, firm tannins, impressive complexity and depth with noticeable potential for developmental ageing. SUPERIORE.DE
"Captivating bouquet of stone fruit, herbs and violets, also pepper; then with a fine finish and tightly woven tannins, ends long on raspberry and violet notes." Vinum
"Clear, firm and quite deep, slightly smoky aroma of ripe black berries and sour cherries with restrained nutty and tobacco barrel notes and herbal nuances. Tart, juicy, quite fresh dark fruit, noticeable acid bite and youthful, crumbly-sandy tannins, good persistence, peppery-ethereal spice in the background, a hint of mint, tart nutty tones and a little tobacco, hints of coffee, clear contours, some depth, very good, youthful-juicy finish, again with acid bite and ethereal notes." Wein-Plus
"A powerful red with aromas of salted plums, olives and sun-dried tomatoes, followed by cedar, liquorice and damp earth. It is medium to full-bodied with firm tannins. It is a little rough and woody, but should relax and integrate." James Suckling
"The warm, inviting, almost sensual nose shows plenty of tar and gravel, along with juicy aromas of blood orange, blackberry and caramelised fennel. More notes of dark berries emerge on the palate before a finish of citrus and dark chocolate. Sticky, dense tannins bind everything together." Wine Enthusiast
"Cherry, plum, leather, iron and sweet spice flavours mingle in this dense, broad red wine, which remains concentrated thanks to its lively acidity and has a broad tannic arc on the fresh, complex finish. There's a lot going on; it just needs time." Wine Spectator

“Vigorello” Rosso Toscana IGT 2019
Vigorello was created back in 1968 at the beginning of the Super Tuscan movement. It is a powerful yet refined wine that bursts from the glass with unadulterated tones of black fruit, liquorice, rose and dried lavender, Mediterranean herbs and a sweet hint of vanilla. The balance and structure are outstanding and it will develop even more complexity over time. SUPERIORE.DE
"The nose mixes juicy plums and violets with dustier aromas of pepper and mocha. Those notes all continue onto the palate, where bright acidity spotlights the fruit and flowers, and chalky tannins underline the more savory flavors on the long and luxurious finish." Wine Enthusiast
"Aromas of black cherries and currants with licorice, walnut and dried leaves. Medium- to full-bodied with fine, polished tannins and bright acidity. Toned and focused with a fresh, juicy fruit character and firm, flavorful finish." James Suckling
"The 2019 Vigorello, San Felice's Pugnitello, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot blend is terrific. I especially admire the interplay of dense fruit and energy. Plum, pomegranate, mocha, new leather, spice and dried herbs all build in a sensual, beautifully layered red that delivers the goods." Vinous
"The San Felice 2019 Vigorello is another hit from this leading winery in Castelnuovo Berardenga. The wine reveals an inky dark appearance and a profound bouquet that goes beyond the standard black cherry and spice. This offering also brings on pretty tones of cola, crushed flower, grilled rosemary and sweet crème de cassis. There is freshness and grippy tannins to close. Production is only 6,000 bottles." "Discreet flavours of undergrowth and damp earth mingle with tea, tobacco and thyme. The wine is round and flattering and envelops the palate. As it expands, it reveals its power. The dry tannins at the edges should soften with time, but it is still immediately inviting." Decanter

Actually, it's a whole village, not just a vineyard. Antica Pieve San Felice in Pincis, a historic complex with church and rural settlement near Castelnuovo Berardenga in southern Chianti Classico, dates back to the Etruscans, later hotly embroiled in the wars between Florence and Siena. Throughout history it has been owned by various local families, most recently the Grisaldi del Taja, co-founder of the Consorzio Chianti Classico. For centuries, olives and vines have been cultivated on the vast areas of woodland and agriculture.
As early as 1968, the company began to abandon the use of white grapes, as prescribed in the Chianti Classico, and pressed the Vigorello, the "expressive". Today it is often referred to as the first Supertuscan. The following year, the Il Grigio came onto the market, which was to set the trend for the development of the San Felice winery. The idea of pressing a wine only from Sangiovese was absolutely right.
So it was only logical that at the end of the 1970s, when the winery came into the possession of the Allianz Group, the first Cru, i.e. a Chianti Classico from a single vineyard, should also be produced; this vineyard is called Poggio Rosso, as is the wine of the same name.
The vineyards of San Felice are situated at an average altitude of about 400 metres above sea level in a rocky hilly area made up of different layers of rock, from Galestro to limestone and clay. The interplay of cool offshore winds at night and mild sea breezes during the day develops the fruity, elegant aroma.
In addition to Sangiovese, the long-term oenologist Leonardo Bellaccini also dedicates himself to many autochthonous grape varieties, many of which he has saved from extinction in collaboration with the Universities of Pisa and Florence. The "vicitiarium" cultivates more than a hundred grape varieties and has become a showcase project. Some of the old grape varieties are used as blending partners in Chianti Classico, the "Pugnitello" has become a rare and sought-after wine from the grape of the same name.
In the last decades a lot has been invested and lovingly restored. Not only in the vineyards and the cellar, but also in the historical building fabric. This is how Borgo San Felice, Relais & Chateaux with hotel, restaurant, osteria, wellness as well as event and conference facilities.
For some years now, the small Perolla winery near Massa Marittima in the Maremma has been part of the San Felice estate. Here red wines are produced as well as Rosato from Cabernet, Merlot, Ciliegiolo and Sangiovese, like the often excellent Poggibano. The white wine produced from the Maremannic grape variety Vermentino, which thrives particularly well in the Mediterranean climate near the Tyrrhenian coast, is particularly exciting.
San Felice also includes Campogiovanni in Montalcino, where excellent Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino have been built since the mid-1980s, as well as the young Bolgheri estate Bell.'Aja, where Bolgheri Rosso and Bolgheri Superiore are created, which you can also find in our assortment.
