“Forcole” Chianti Classico DOCG 2021
Forcole is produced in a surprisingly small quantity for a Chianti Classico - just 15,000 bottles. The bouquet begins with a slender texture and aromas of wild berries, sour cherries, pressed violets and sweet earth. Supple, generous and inviting on the palate, it captures all the natural intensity of the vintage. Its attractive silky tannins and the rather darker and crispy-cool Sangiovese flavour profile of the Panzano region make it a great soloist as well as food companion. SUPERIORE.DE
"Aromas of ripe cherries and kirsch with dried flowers, pomegranate and tree bark. Some wet stones, too. Medium- to full-bodied, fine and polished with depth and intensity to the fruit. Some clove and vanilla undertones." James Suckling
"Made with 100% Sangiovese, the Tenuta degli Dei 2021 Chianti Classico Forcole shows tart cherry and cassis with potting soil, blue flower and grilled rosemary over a mid-weight finish. This is a classic expression of the grape from sunny Panzano in Chianti." Wine Advocate

“Le Redini” Rosso Toscana IGT 2021
Le Redini Rosso consists mainly of Merlot and a small proportion of Alicante. The wine opens with dark intensity and a velvety texture with lots of fresh blackberry, plum, earth and wild rose. Pure red fruit on the palate, very supple, the delicate wood note well integrated. The refined notes of a Merlot from the Conca d'Oro come across wonderfully. SUPERIORE.DE
"Fresh and pure expression of red plums, cherries, crushed strawberries, fresh mushrooms and minerals. Superficial red fruits on the medium-bodied palate with fresh tannins and fresh, crunchy plums and red cherries on the medium-long finish. Fruit-emphasised, dry and structured. There is certainly nothing superfluous here." James Suckling
"The 2021 Le Redini is a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Alicante from a site with loose soils rich in schistose Galestro. What stands out most is the soft and gentle texture of the wine, which nestles close to the palate. There are no rough edges and the finish is characterised by dark cherries, spices and baking chocolate." Wine Advocate
"The 2021 Le Redini is a beautiful, beguiling wine composed primarily of Merlot with a dash of Alicante, a blend that is unique to the Chianti Classico estate. Le Redini is a wine with aromatic presence and nuance, presenting a compelling blend of ripe red cherries, wild herbs, mint, rose petals and cinnamon. A little new oak still needs to be integrated. Otherwise, the 2021 is a very good wine." Vinous

“Cavalli” Rosso Toscana IGT 2020
The top wine Cavalli Rosso comes from loose marl soils at an altitude of 400 metres facing south. It reveals a dark and lush fruit profile with intense blackberry, sour cherry, plum and graphite. On the palate, it has a high primary intensity and medium weight, finishing with a very crisp acidity. It is polished and deep, balanced and supple with plenty of fruity power, weight and length. SUPERIORE.DE
"The wine is rich and fully loaded with dark fruit flavors, but it never strays from a careful sense of balance. There is some ripe fruit with blackberry mostly, followed by spice and cured tobacco. It ages in a combination of oak, stainless steel and cement." Wine Advocate
"A modern and very well-made Toscana here showing excellent depth and complexity. Some plush cocoa powder to the minty blackberries, dark cherries, violets and hints of pine cone, black pepper and stones. Full-bodied and concentrated on the palate with firm, juicy tannins and a focused finish. Long and tangy." James Suckling
"The 2020 Tenuta degli Dei is wonderfully poised and vibrant. Cavalli's blend of (50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Petit Verdot and 15% Cabernet Franc) stands out for its precision. The heaviness of some previous years thankfully belongs to the past. Bright acid lift a core of blue/purplish fruit, lavender, menthol, licorice and espresso. The 2020 might be the best vintage yet for this wine." Vinous

“Cavalli” Rosso Toscana IGT 2019 · MAGNUM in OWC
The top wine Cavalli Rosso comes from loose marl soils at an altitude of 400 metres facing south. It reveals a dark and lush fruit profile with intense blackberry, sour cherry, plum and graphite. On the palate, it has a high primary intensity and medium weight, finishing with a very crisp acidity. It is polished and deep, balanced and supple with plenty of fruity power, weight and length. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sweet berries and cherries, lightly toasted oak and violets on the nose. Medium to full body, firm tannins and a fresh, linear finish. Firm and needs to open." James Suckling
"The 2019 Cavalli is a lovely Tuscan red with a rich and velvety texture that is never heavy or too dense. In fact, it offers an open-knit consistency with plenty of dark fruit, spice, grilled herb and wild rose. Oak tones of cedar and cinnamon frame that dark core. This wine is a joy to drink." Wine Advocate
"The 2019 Tenuta Degli Dei is gorgeous. Cabernet aromas drive the balance in this beautifully vibrant, structured Panzano red. Mocha, dried leaves, tobacco, espresso and incense abound. I would give this a few years to soften, as the tannins are pretty imposing at this stage." Vinous

Behind the entrance gate of the Tenuta degli Dei lies the family business of Tommaso Cavalli, where horses and vineyards play a prominent role. So it's no wonder that countless vines are lined up along the gently sloping road into the valley and horses gallop across the paddocks. The picturesque estate is located in San Leolino in Panzano in Chianti, Tuscany, and was bought by Tommaso's father, the designer Roberto Cavalli, in the 1970s.
The area is ideal for Tommaso's greatest passion: breeding valuable trotting horses. Since 1989, he has lived with his family on the 70-hectare Tenuta degli Dei (translated: Estate of the Gods). The horse breeder was introduced to viticulture by none other than the famous oenologist Carlo Ferrini, who convinced him to enter the world of winegrowing in 2000. Since then, the eldest son of the fashion icon has been producing his top Tuscan wines with great success, which have already been recognised in the wine world.
Tommaso's vineyards are located at 400-450 metres above sea level on the sunniest parts of his property. After months of research, the area was divided into small plots and planted in rows with the Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Alicante Bouchet and Sangiovese grape varieties. The production comprises three refined red wines, which, among other things, showcase the coveted terroir of the sun-drenched Conca d'Oro vineyard.
The winemaker is very different from his famous designer father. He enjoys living far away from the limelight and working in the great outdoors. As in fashion and horse breeding, Cavalli only allows the best of the best when it comes to wine. Organic guidelines apply in the vineyard and the grapes, which are carefully selected during the harvest, are passed over vibrating sorting tables when they arrive in the cellar to give the selection process that extra polish.
"In the cellar, I have gradually selected the toasting and origin of the barriques and tonneaux barrels, which I believe improve the ageing potential of my wines, right up to the introduction of traditional cement tanks for the final part of the ageing of my Chianti Classico and the IGT wine Le Redini," explains the dynamic winemaker in conversation. In his modern wine cellar, the selected grapes fall by gravity into temperature-controlled steel vats for fermentation before being transferred to various wooden barrels where they are left to refine in peace.
So when you hear the name Cavalli today, you no longer necessarily think only of the fashion world. For some years now, the famous family name has undoubtedly also been synonymous with top wines from the Chianti Classico region. It is therefore not surprising that Carlo Ferrini is trying to persuade Tommaso to reduce the size of his paddocks and plant a further 3.5 hectares of vines on the Tenuta degli Dei. SUPERIORE.DE
