Cabernet Franc Costa Toscana IGT 2022 (BIO)
Ampeleias Cabernet Franc is a rare and Demeter-certified wine that opens with a bright, dark ruby-red colour. The wine is made with 20% whole bunches and the fruit comes from the high altitude Vigna dell'Asina, characterised by local soils known as Galestro and Palombino with elements of schist and limestone. This wine is very varietal with dark fruits and blackberries, spices and a green note of grilled rosemary or wild sage. SUPERIORE.DE

Velvety and subtle, with poise and a refined, pristine texture. Bright and seductive, with a lively, succulent finish. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification." James Suckling

“Ampeleia” Costa Toscana IGT 2021 (BIO)
Ampeleia is the winery's top wine and, since the 2015 vintage, has been made exclusively from Cabernet Franc from various plots planted at a cool altitude of 500 to 600 metres above sea level. A wine with personality and character, its inner elegance and fruitiness make it a fascinating interpretation of the new and different Maremma. SUPERIORE.DE
"Earthy notes dominate this wine, with leather, cocoa, dried eucalyptus leaves and restrained bramble fruit. Dense palate with a full body, velvety extracted tannins, intense fruit definition, black olives savoriness, crisp acidity and a muscular finish." James Suckling

“Empatia” Merlot Costa Toscana IGT 2018 (BIO) · MAGNUM in OWC
This Merlot is so strictly limited that it is not even on the winery's official price list. The grapes for this exceptional Merlot, bottled exclusively in only a few magnum bottles, come from vines of the winery that are over 30 years old. Actually vinified only for our own consumption and good friends, we managed to obtain a few bottles for our customers.
On the nose, fresh notes of crisp red fruits, along with balsamic notes reminiscent of the vegetation of this upper part of the Maremma. The body is decisive, enveloping, rich and at the same time boundlessly elegant. This Merlot impresses with its precise response. The refreshing acidity gives it the tools for a long life. Happy the one who can call a bottle of it his own. SUPERIORE.DE
"This wine is only released in magnum bottles and I tasted number 66 of only 246 bottles produced. The organic and biodynamic Ampeleia 2018 Merlot Empatia shows a beautiful richness of fruit and concentration, certainly with weight but without heaviness. The wine remains bright and buoyant thanks to black cherry, smoked tobacco and spice. There are also notes of liquorice, green olives and Mediterranean herbs. The vines are rooted in volcanic soils from an ancient crater." Wine Advocate
"Unique aromas of blackberries, lavender, sage, coriander and ink. Complex on the nose. Full-bodied with creamy tannins and beautiful fruit density. The length and polish of this wine are, as always, very impressive. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Only available in the magnum bottle. Drinkable now, but best from 2025." James Suckling
"The 2018 Empatia is 100% Merlot bottled only in magnum. A wine of presence and textural intensity, the 2018 dazzles right out of the gate. Black cherry, cloves, leather, licorice and incense meld together in this deep, sumptuous wine. This is impressive." Vinous

The Ampeleia project began in 2002 as a dream shared by three friends. The declared goal of the triumvirate was to build a unique wine and farming project in an extraordinary place where biodiversity and terroir form the basis for the production of excellent wines.
Elisabetta Foradori is considered by many to be the uncrowned Italian wine queen. The highly respected winemaker from Trentino and her South Tyrolean friends, the entrepreneurs Thomas Widmann and Giovanni Podini, dreamed of a wine like velvet and silk, a noble drop of radiant elegance and finesse. They therefore started a project and called it Ampeleia (Greek ampelos = the vine). In 2002, the three founders acquired the vineyard that suited their ideas in the picturesque mountain village of Roccatederighi in the hinterland of the Maremma. The previous Swiss owners had run the estate with great passion since the 1960s, when French grape varieties such as Cabernet Franc and Merlot entered the region. Under the name Fattoria di Meleta, the estate already had a good reputation in the eighties – at that time, the Maremma was not yet very well known as a wine-growing region.
Step by step, the new owners around star winemaker Elisabetta Foradori bought more land. Since the beginning, Marco Tait has been responsible for the vineyards of Ampeleia. The winemaker, supported by a hand-picked team, has been guiding the fortunes of Ampeleia for more than two decades with sovereignty and great success.
Ampeleia's vineyards and cultivation system are unique in many ways. The land lies in the middle of the Tuscan Mining UNESCO Geopark, a protected area of international geological importance, and has a wide variety of soil profiles, e.g. clay, limestone, granite, galestro, slate and sand. In the vineyards of Ampeleia di Sotto, Ampeleia di Mezzo and Ampeleia di Sopra, which are relatively far apart from each other and reach different altitudes between 200 and 600 metres, seven grape varieties are cultivated today, according to their suitability, with Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Sangiovese, Grenache, Carignano, Mourvèdre and Alicante Bouschet. The grape varieties must be cultivated with particular care and flexibility because of the different territorial characteristics of the plots. The Ampeleia di Sopra growing zone, which is predominantly planted with Cabernet Franc, has been cultivated biodynamically since 2009. In the foreseeable future, the other vineyards will also be completely converted to the most ecologically sustainable method of cultivation.
The two estate owners, Foradori and Podini, and winemaker Tait – Thomas Widmann left the joint venture in 2009 because of a commitment to politics – stand for wines in a clearly defined style. The fruity drops bear elegant rather than opulent features and are pleasant to drink. The top of the five-product range is an extremely high-quality blend of Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese and four other grape varieties, which bears the name of the young wine house.
Nature lovers are also recommended to visit the winery. Since the mountain village of Roccatederighi is situated on a rocky massif, there is a magnificent panoramic view from the very top, ranging from high mountains with chestnut forests to grain fields and olive groves on the plain. SUPERIORE.DE
"The collaborative project is fueled by an uncompromising quest for quality, aiming for a personal, innovative style, but also trying to incorporate the terroir as much as possible."Gambero Rosso
