“Costa Ovest” Grechetto Toscana IGT 2023 (BIO)
The grapes for Maurizio Castelli's new, crisp and fresh white wines come from a vineyard on Monte Bottigli, a "forteto" known to the locals for its wild and impenetrable nature. They ripen with a view of the panorama of the Tuscan archipelago and ideally embody the maritime character of the Maremma. Bright yellow with a bouquet characterised by floral and yellow-fleshed fruit aromas. On the palate, it has a medium structure, complexity and persistence, and its freshness makes it extremely enjoyable in the glass. For us, Costa Ovest is the ideal summer wine! SUPERIORE.DE

“414” Morellino di Scansano DOCG 2022 (BIO)
Maurizio Castelli does not like fancy names. That's why he took a simple but original approach when naming the estate and his top wine: 414, which is the number of the vineyard in the region's land register. And the Morellino 414 more than lives up to this clear line and proves its stature: smoky notes in the lively fruit bouquet, the contrasting, drinkable flavour convinces with aromatic power and structure. One of the best Morellino in the appellation and for us the purest pleasure in a glass! SUPERIORE.DE
"A ripe and refined red with dried raspberries, spiced strawberries and red cherries. The tannins are tense and pretty close-knit, which creates tightness on the medium-bodied palate. Pretty long in the finish." James Suckling

Trebbiano Toscana IGT 2022 (BIO)
Intense golden yellow colour, striking aroma of flowers and white stone fruit, all finely woven into the wood tannin. The wine is well-structured and persistent on the palate. A long-lasting white wine made from Trebbiano toscano, as not only winegrowers liked to drink it in the past. SUPERIORE.DE
"Apple peel, pie crust and sour cream on the nose, with a subtle twist of cashews. Lightly abrasive and weighty on the palate, with tightness, bright acidity and some nutty creaminess at the end. Pretty unique and serious." James Suckling

“Vigna del Bersagliere” Morellino di Scansano Riserva DOCG 2018 (BIO)
Only 2,000 numbered bottles of the 2018 debut vintage of the "Vigna del Bersagliere" Morellino di Scansano Riserva were filled. The grapes for the new top Sangiovese from Podere 414 come from a small, organically cultivated vineyard of just 1.3 hectares above the winery. It is aged for 36 months in 500 Liters and then refined for 24 months in the bottle. Bright ruby red in colour. Primary aromas of ripe, dark fruit with spicy notes in the glass. Firmly structured on the palate, again dark fruit, plus plums and earthy tones. It is still young and somewhat angular in the glass, but its exceptional style and good acidity/tannin structure already suggest very good ageing potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"Intriguing wild berry nose, spiced up with herbal notes; pleasing on the palate, with noticeable acidity, fine-grained tannins, notes of berries, rose petals and subtle spices on the final." Vinum
"A powerful red wine with notes of cloves, dried cherries, cedar wood, orange peel and olives. It is medium to full-bodied, creamy in texture, with firm, still relatively stable tannins. Walnuts at the end. Let it mature." James Suckling

Aleatico Passito Toscana IGT s.a. dolce · 0,5l in OWC
The Aleatico grapes for this very small edition (< 500 hand-numbered bottles) dry slightly on the vine when they are harvested. They are then subjected to further drying in well-ventilated rooms for about 45 days, as in the production of Amarone. The first fermentation takes place in stainless steel, the further course then in new small wooden barrels of medium toasting.
Intense garnet red, primary aromas on the nose such as roses, dried apricots and ripe black fruits, plus a spicy herbal note and wonderfully integrated wood. On the palate, complex, full of character, with great consistency and personality, the exciting correspondence of residual sweetness and natural acidity makes it a highly balanced, almost hedonistic meditation wine of great rarity value. Behind Podere 414 is Maurizio Castelli, an oenologist of great importance for Italian viticulture. A successful consultant, decisively involved in the development of Supertuscans and the modernization of Italian vineyards and wineries.
For his own project, his dream of an integrated farm, run according to biodynamic principles, with viticulture, cereals and livestock breeding, the agricultural engineer Castelli, who holds a doctorate in agricultural engineering, bought a farm of approx. 30 hectares in an excellent location. In Podere 414 in the DOC Morellino di Scansano, Simone Castelli, Maurizio's son, has so far planted 11 hectares of wine. The oldest vines carry in the seventh year. Simone, like his father, studied at the University of Florence and today, together with his wife Maja, takes care of the new winery. The vineyards are very modern, the planting density is very high with 6800 vines per hectare, the average yield is low with 40 hectolitres per hectare. About 85 percent of the vineyards are planted with Sangiovese, the rest with Ciliegiolo, Alicante and Colorino.
Only a single wine is produced, a 'Morellino di Scansano' and since Maurizio Castelli hates fantasy names and is only interested in quality, he took a simple but original path in naming the estate and its wine. 414 - this is the number of the area in the cadastre of the region. SUPERIORE.DE
