"The 2018 Sangiovese stuns the senses with an exotic bouquet that keeps the glass in constant motion as sandalwood and crushed stones complicate rhubarb and violet blossom flavours, all engulfing a core of brilliant strawberry fruit. The wine is racy and supple, with a silky yet vibrant texture and vibrant acidity that emphasises the ripe wild berry fruit. The 2018 finishes with dramatic length and is full of energy. An orange glow balances the angular tannins, and purple flowers fade slowly over a lingering note of red candy. "Soldera fans will be very pleased with this latest release, which, despite the uneven growing season (with a wet and cool spring and a hot summer), shows tremendous Sangiovese character and lustre. The legendary Gianfranco Soldera died of a heart attack on the morning of 16 February 2019 while driving along the bucolic, vineyard-lined road near his winery. This means that this is the last vintage to be managed directly by Soldera, a man who was very active in the vineyards and winery until the very end. As a farewell gift, he presents us with a finely nuanced wine with flavours of cassis, wild berries, rosemary, pencil shavings and blood orange.
