“La Querciolina” Rosso Montecucco DOC 2020
The Montecucco appellation near the Tuscan coast enjoys plenty of warmth and sun to produce wines with a full texture. On the nose, ripe cherries and blackcurrants, with smoke and tar as the wine progresses. Very juicy on the palate, with nice energy and a very acceptable length. A wonderful companion to heartier cuisine. SUPERIORE.DE
"This wine shows notes of red fruits, dried herbs and walnuts with some earthy character. Medium-bodied with soft, juicy tannins and lively fruit character. Aromatic finish." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino “Pertimali” DOCG 2017
The even stricter selection of the grapes in 2017 led to a total of half the number of bottles compared to previous vintages. The result, however, is impressive: An extremely attractive bouquet with earthy notes, only gradually revealing ripe strawberries, spicy herbs, leather and a little coffee. As it progresses, spicy orange peel, sour cherry and mint, followed by salty minerals. The lively acidity ensures that the wine remains fresh and supple despite its compact structure. The initially firm tannins gracefully envelop the pretty fruit core with further aeration, and in the long final we then discover sweet spices and traces of white pepper. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Sassetti Livio Pertimali 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is quite bright and lifted with cherries and fresh fruits that pop from the glass. The primary intensity is radiant in this wine, setting it apart from many of its peers. It covers the palate with mid-weight intensity, nice acidity and silky tannins. The brightness you get here is so attractive now, so I see little reason to wait much longer before pulling this cork." Wine Advocate
"The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino makes itself known with a burst of dusty black raspberries, mentholated herbs, crushed ashen stone and dark flowery undergrowth. Silky-smooth and round in feel, it impresses with a cooling wave of mint-infused wild berry fruits mixed with balsamic spices and wood-smoked salts. While the 2017 doesn’t have the weight and density you’d expect from such a young Pertimali, yet it makes up for it with grace and purity, leaving a light coating of tannins and minerals to mingle throughout the finale." Vinous
"Black cherry and mushroom with some dried flower undertones. Full-bodied with fine velvety tannins and a juicy and succulent finish. The tannins are very polished for a 2017. Try from 2023 onwards." James Suckling
"One of the founding wineries of the Brunello Consortium, an ancient wisdom that proceeds in the line of tradition to realize wines of excellence. The nose is neat and intriguing, with small red fruits, touches of red currant, star anise and undergrowth, with a finish of freshness, on the notes of wild mint. The mouthfeel is juicy and dense, closing with officinal return." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino “Pertimali” DOCG 2018
Earthy notes on the nose, only gradually revealing ripe strawberries, spicy herbs, leather and some coffee. As it progresses, spicy orange peel, sour cherry and mint, followed by salty minerals. "Deep ruby with a rich garnet rim. Opens on the nose with emphatically ripe notes of pickled cherries and dried plums, plus lots of molasses, seems like a Brunello from days gone by. Blossoms on the palate, lots of ripe fruit, opens with hearty, grippy tannins, lots of power, delicately bitter final." Falstaff
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino captivates with dark, balsamic-tinged black cherries, plum sauce and autumnal spices. It is velvety to the core, almost opulent on the palate, with a dense wave of ripe red fruits complemented by nuances of sweet lavender and tobacco. It leaves the palate with fine tannins and a primary concentration that create a classic feel that transcends the vintage. Almost a minute passes with notes of cocoa and sweet herbs still lingering. Wonderful! Production at the Pertimali estate was down 20% due to the spring frost, and they decided to put all the juice normally destined for the Riserva into the pure Brunello, resulting in one of the top wines of the vintage." Vinous
"The nose is fruity and fizzy, like cherry cola, with roots and mixed herbs bringing a welcome savory element. The palate is sweet and juicy with cherries, but balance comes from an undertone of dark chocolate, before the nose's lightly medicinal quality emerges again. Acidity positively fizzes around powerful tannins." Wine Enthusiast
"Intense aromas of black cherries, lavender and spices, like nutmeg. Also some sandalwood and bark. Full-bodied with a solid core of fruit and tannins for the vintage. Rather viscous, suggesting that further bottle ageing is required." James Suckling

Before Brunello di Montalcino was granted its official designation of origin in 1967, Livio Sassetti had already begun producing first-class Sangiovese wines. The winemaker has a special knack for locating the best vineyard sites and was born and raised in the renowned area of Montosoli.
As one of the co-founders of the Brunello Consortium, Sassetti is one of the most important top producers who have unwaveringly believed in the potential of Sangiovese in this magnificent wine-growing zone. Their collective pioneering spirit has ultimately been able to give the world-renowned Brunello di Montalcino its prestige and its very special appeal.
The vines are planted in a south-easterly direction on the northern slopes of the hill town, most of which are made up of calcareous clay soils. Under a bright blue sky, the sunlight here reflects on the light subsoil, which is rich in ancient marine fossils. Livio's successor Lorenzo Sassetti now farms some of the most attractive vineyards in Montalcino with his wife Sabina - especially when it comes to the soil conditions for growing the demanding Sangiovese grapes.
These magnificent vineyards, together with part of the historic Podere Pertimali estate, were purchased in 1960 by Livio, after whom the idyllic winery was named. The spicy taste of Sassetti Brunello and its Riserva is often complemented by a deep black cherry fruit. However, this style is not only due to the prime vineyards in Montosoli. It is above all, more recently, the critical and meticulous cellar work of Livio's son Lorenzo, thanks to which the house's wine style has now become unmistakable.
The use of the 33-hectolitre barrels, which preserve the typical fruit intensity of Sangiovese, gives the wines the special charm of the traditional Brunello style. Over the years, Lorenzo Sassetti has succeeded in constantly perfecting his father's unique signature through modern production methods, while still remaining true to tradition in a respectful manner. At his senior's side, he continues to create amazingly elegant Brunello wines in this historic winery, which are without a doubt among the best in the region.
In 1999, the Sassetti family bought an additional plot of land in the Maremma. Here at the La Querciolina vineyard, DOC Montecucco, the family produces an excellent Montecucco Rosso from 100% Sangiovese. SUPERIORE.DE
"If I could only drink one Brunello, it would be one from Pertimali. This producer has been making sensational wines since 1982." Robert Parker
