Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2022
Authentic interpretation of the Sangiovese grape. Medium garnet red, bright aromas of sour cherry, redcurrant, blue flowers and a hint of bitter almond. Firm and lively on the palate, with present acidity and well-structured tannins. A wonderfully compact, authentic Tuscan and for us the ideal accompaniment to strong pasta dishes. SUPERIORE.DE
"I like the juiciness and tension of this Rosso, which also shows the ripeness of the berry and cherry fruit. At the same time, a hint of iron and spice. The palate is fine-grained, with a medium to full body and a fairly long finish. The tannins have a certain heaviness." James Suckling
"The 2022 Rosso di Montalcino entices with a whiff of mint leaf and sage before giving way to crushed black cherries, clove and white smoke. This shows the ripeness of the vintage in a beautifully balanced package, with mineral-laced red and blue fruits that swirl across textures of pure silk. It finishes incredibly long, repeating its mineral strength. Sweet tannins linger through the violet-tinged finale. The 2022 is an understated beauty." Vinous

“Rapace” Rosso Toscana IGT 2021
Rapace 2021 opens with a medium-dark colour and a beautiful concentration that is not too heavy and not too light. The bouquet offers dark fruits and plums. These primary flavours are framed by sweet spices, cedar wood and tobacco. Delicate oak elements add depth and texture to the wine. It is perfect as an accompaniment from starters to main courses with meat. SUPERIORE.DE
"A bright and juicy but structured red that shows both vivid fruit and a firm tannic backbone. Medium-bodied, polished and even, with notes of red berries, walnuts and spices and a mineral aftertaste." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2018
Here is one of the most classic Brunello of the 2018 vintage: the dose of primary fruit such as cherry and blackberry is marvellous and rich, flanked by well-dosed hints of oak, wild herbs, cinnamon and dark smoke. This Brunello maintains its high tempo from start to finish, it is generous, concentrated, firm and fleshy on the palate and leads into a multi-layered, phenomenal final. This red will unfold its full bloom over the next few years; it is undisputedly one of the greats of this vintage! SUPERIORE.DE
"Medium, warm red colour; certain ripeness and fruit, arouses curiosity; fruity, depth, sweetness, juicy, also caramel, delicately tart, long." Merum
"Bright, sparkling ruby red colour. Nose of hazelnuts, cinnamon, ripe cherries, a hint of fumé and barrel. Firm and compact on the palate, with a creamy fruit centre and fine fruit sweetness, embedded in currently still very robust tannins, still needs time." Falstaff
"The Uccelliera is produced from several parcels at different altitudes and exposures around the town of Castelnuovo dell'Abate. While the 2018 is slightly more restrained and less opulent than recent vintages, it remains true to its generous, intense style and will satisfy those looking for a savoury Brunello full of flavour. Woody notes of vanilla and charcoal dissolve into nutmeg, cinnamon and herbs. A hint of macerated fruit appears on the palate, underlined by sweet earth and tobacco. The rich tannins remain supple and enveloping, while a core of concentrated acidity keeps everything in check until a very spicy finish." Decanter
"This wine is creamy and open with delicious notes of sour cherries, plum stones, roasted nuts, mocha and sandalwood. Full-bodied, with fine-grained tannins that form a silky frame. Juicy finish." James Suckling
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino opens beautifully in the glass, gaining intensity and depth. It shows taut lines and a fleshy mouthfeel that favours plenty of layering and textural richness. This velvety quality is the enduring signature of this estate, which has achieved consistent results over the years." Wine Advocate
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino is undeniably pretty and slightly exotic, exuding a multi-faceted bouquet of wild strawberries, fresh mint, balsamic herbs, cloves and a hint of sweet smoke. The Brunello di Montalcino is luxurious, silky and smooth, enveloping the palate with ripe forest fruits, while a tantalising inner sweetness and a hint of tobacco develop towards the end. Salty minerals give the wine an almost crisp finish, and although it is tannic, this in no way detracts from the graceful nature of the 2018, which is still energetic with notes of plum and liquorice. This is a spectacular Brunello of the vintage." Vinous
"Broad and dense, with flavours of plum, cherry, leather, tobacco and earth, underscored by assertive tannins that offer solid support on the lingering finish. It reveals hidden fruit, so give it some time to integrate better." Wine Spectator
"The nose showcases a spectrum of umami aromas, from soil to astringent fruit to balsamic, stone and wild herbs. The palate leans into the fruity notes, with pepper providing heat and a continued metallic quality providing structure. Tightly coiled tannins and buoyant acid accentuate haughty citrus overtones." Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019
Andrea Cortonesi's Brunello di Montalcino 2019 shows its best side right from the start. It combines richness, maturity and finesse to create a model of total balance. At first glance, it is dark, earthy and herbal, but with time in the glass, a massive wave of black cherries, raspberries, sage and a grounding note of undergrowth emerges. In the mouth, it coats everything it touches with a silky, cool texture that gives way to ripe red and black fruits complemented by spiced citrus, while nuances of lavender and tobacco develop. While the wine feels round and supple, fine-grained tannins slowly creep in, reminding you how young it really is. A hint of baker's chocolate, liquorice and a touch of tart blackberry resonate on the long final... SUPERIORE.DE
"Multifaceted bouquet with aromas of dark berries, leather and chocolate; the attack is full-bodied, the tannins perfectly integrated, develops full of esprit towards an extremely fruity final." Vinum
"Ripe ruby red with a brick-coloured rim. Fairly developed, ripe and brooding cherry fruit nose with hints of tobacco. The palate is much more backward but well put together, with plenty of chewy tannins that don't overpower the fruit. It's an old-school wine, and I'd wait another two years before approaching it. Very long and captivating." Jancis Robinson
"It opens with aromas reminiscent of cedar and pine forest, undergrowth and leather. The palate is full and powerful, but more square than round. A compact core of dark cherry is surrounded by chewy, generous tannins. A hint of dryness from the wood comes through. Still, this wine feels very real, and the underlying acidity provides a brightening effect." Decanter
"Perfumed and attractive with flavours of black cherries and berries, as well as lavender and rosemary flowers. Medium-bodied with firm tannins and a juicy finish. Needs to age in the bottle to mellow." James Suckling
"Dense and muscular, this red delivers a broad swath of cherry, plum and floral flavors, supplemented by iron, eucalyptus and sanguine notes. Tightens up on the finish, leaving a compact impression, yet this is persistent overall." Wine Spectator
"The Uccelliera 2019 Brunello di Montalcino offers ripe fruit, a hint of cooked blackberries and pomegranate juice. Together with oak spice and dried bay leaf, there is a hint of creaminess in the centre of the palate, reminiscent of cheese rind or matured chèvre with a crust of black pepper and thyme. This note fades, however, and the wine returns to dried cherry with a medicinal or herbal flavour. There is a lot going on. The wine needs more time in the bottle to work through the fine, chalky tannins. It's already elegant now, but it will improve." Wine Advocate
"The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino is a profound and intense wine that shoots from the glass with a wave of autumnal spices, crushed cherries, cedar shavings and soaked plums underpinned by pine notes. This wine is highly structured, elegant and refined, with a dense wave of ripe forest fruits accompanied by vibrant acidity underscored by orange and balsamic herbs. It finishes grippy and lingering with a black hole of tension and a sweet and sour sensation that lingers on and on as crisp tannins reverberate within. The 2019 is youthfully backward today, but its balance is undeniable, especially as it has opened up over twenty-four hours. It is an absolute pleasure to taste this wine. Bury the 2019 deep in your cellar." Vinous

Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2016
This coveted Riserva is only vinified in top vintages and comes from the highest vineyards of the winery. On the nose, the essence of dark cherries, blackberries, flowers, violets, liquorice and spices, which are then carried away on the palate by firm, structured tannins. The Brunello Riserva 2016 impresses with its remarkable fruit and a big, explosive finish. It presents itself fresh and surprisingly lively, yet very focused and balanced. A great wine that is already a real joy to drink. SUPERIORE.DE
"Andrea Cortonesi crafts distinctly umami Brunello from various parcels at diverse altitudes and exposures in the warm reaches of Castelnuovo dell’Abate. After trying the sensuous 2015 Riserva at the estate in September 2021, I was excited to taste the 2016 release. It too is voluptuously shaped yet shored up by sturdy, muscular tannins. Pronounced clove and nutmeg meet prune, dried raspberry and tar. And there is a saline beef broth undertow. While it offers plenty to unpack over the years, I actually prefer to drink Uccelliera’s wines when they are still full of vim and vigour." Decanter
"This is really polished and refined, yet remains polished and beautiful, with cherries and berries, as well as light hazelnut and walnut undertones. Compact and silky. Drink after 2024, but already so attractive." James Suckling
"The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a terrific wine: bold, well-defined, powerful and balanced. There are many good things to relate, but the high alcohol content (measured at 15.5%) is the only distraction. This is a trend in the Riserva category in the 2016 vintage. The bouquet shows black cherry, cassis, earth, leather and dried roses. The palate offers soft fruit flavors supported by firm oak tannins." Wine Advocate
"Rich and deeply alluring, the 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva wafts up to display crushed ashen stone mixed with hints of ginger, dusty florals and black cherry preserves. This is velvety-smooth and pliant in feel, lifted by cooling herbal and mineral tones, as an opulent wave of ripe red and black fruits washes across the palate, leaving a staining of minerals and spice in its wake. It’s long and structured, in need of further time to come fully into focus, yet somehow the 2016 Riserva remains completely fresh, tapering off to inner earth tones and hints of blueberry. Time will reveal further depths. This is an utterly classic Uccelliera Brunello in the making." Vinous
"Offers forthcoming aromas and flavors of blackberry, black currant, licorice, tobacco and vanilla backed by vivid acidity and dusty tannins, with a long, saline finish. Showing enough fruit and structure to absorb the oakiness over time, this is balanced overall and poised for a promising future." Wine Spectator

After Andrea Cortonesi had been in 1986 in Castelnuovo dell'Abate had bought an almost ruined manor house called Uccelliera with land, he transformed the newly acquired property into a farm dedicated mainly to viticulture. Within just a few years, the agricultural entrepreneur, who comes from a farming family, had already achieved success thanks to his professional know-how: Cortonesis' first Brunello di Montalcino was bottled in 1993. The own wine found with lovers of good drops immediately large resonance. Although the likeable but ambitious and self-critical owner still runs a restaurant in Siena near Piazza del Campo, he always takes enough time to run his farm adjacent to apartments and to take care of four wines and the production of grappa and olive oil.
Andrea Cortonesi's vineyards are cultivated with great care and are densely planted. On average, they are 250 metres above sea level and all the vineyards are located in Castelnuovo dell'Take the exit in the direction of Sant'Angelo in Colle. The old alabaster quarries, whose ashlars give rise to the abbey of Sant'Antimo, bordering the vineyards. After smaller acquisitions and some new plantings, the vineyard area of the farmstead Uccelliera is now Uccelliera: "aviary") has grown to six and a half hectares.
Although not very high, the terrain offers very good conditions for vine cultivation. The medium sandy soils are rich in minerals. The orientation of the rows, the careful manual work in the vineyard and the thinning of the grapes produce perfectly ripened and flavoured berries. A disused Onyx mine not far away provides special wine notes.
In 2008, a major transformation was completed in Uccelliera. The old winery now has a completely underground annex that provides enough space for all the barrels belonging to the estate - and thus also for the containers previously kept in Andrea Cortonesi's apartment due to lack of space. SUPERIORE.DE
"Stylistically, one chooses a beautiful middle way between tradition and modernity, even though recently the use of small French oak barrels and shortened fermentation times have come to the fore."Gambero Rosso 2012
"Andrea Cortonesi is one of my favorite Brunello producers. He is also one of the first estates I visited years ago as a young wine writer and it has been a privilege to watch his career take off in such spectacular fashion. I remember his small basement winery on that first visit and every time I go by his property today, I am surprised and encouraged by signs of recent construction and expansion. If anyone embodies the amazing growth of Brunello di Montalcino that person is Andrea."Robert Parker
