The first Caggiole came onto the market in 1988 and disappeared again in 1995 because the flagship Asinone simply met the tastes of consumers better at the time. Today - after an absence of over 20 years - the Nobile Le Caggiole is back on the market as the estate's new first wine. Estate owner Dott. Federico Carletti has dedicated this masterpiece to his wife Anna - setting a new benchmark for Poliziano and the entire denomination. We are delighted to be able to present this strictly limited top wine!

Brilliant, elegant ruby red colour with a delicately brightening rim. Salty, mineral and refined. Le Caggiole represents the terroir and the Sangiovese grape variety (Prugnolo Gentile) like no other wine from the estate. It is almost light-footed, svelte, delicate and at the same time very fine. It is the result of many years of work selecting the right Sangiovese clones in the single vineyard of the same name, Le Caggiole, which consists of 4 parcels. SUPERIORE.DE

There are so many flavours to list, but among the most obvious are candied orange peel, almond marzipan, caramel, roasted coffee beans, vanilla bean, mocha, dark honey and fragrant yellow roses. The mouthfeel is creamy, rich and layered. Compared to the Occhio di Pernice, I recommend a slightly shorter drinking window here. But, the truth is: I have no idea. Occhio di Pernice means eye of the partridge and refers to the salmon red colour of this lightly vinified Vin Santo from the red grape variety Prugnolo Gentile. Dense and dark after 10 years of barrel ageing, rich in aromas of dates, dried plums and fruitcake. Sweet aroma with sensual flavours of lemon, salted caramel with warm French pastry. The Nobile Riserva, a cru from the historic Sotto Casa vineyard, deserves a place in the list of the best wines, with delicate aromas of cherries and spices that set the mood for intense, flavoursome drinking pleasure. It is a powerful and complex wine, youthfully dense and balanced, with a silky texture and an abundance of tart wild berries, emphasised by salty minerals and spices. On the final, it flexes its tannic muscles, structuring and enveloping the entire palate, while a beguiling, acidic citrus note provides the contrast.
